Derrick Green Goes Blue

Green is commitment No. 27 for Michigan in 2013, and the 13th ranked inside the Top247.

Richmond (Va.) Hermitage five-star running back Derrick Green announced his college commitment for Michigan on Saturday afternoon during a press conference among media, family and friends.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Green chose the Wolverines over his other two finalists, Auburn and Tennessee.

Michigan has been considered the long-time leader for Green, who visited Ann Arbor several times in the past including for his official visit during the season the weekend of Oct. 19 for the Michigan State game.

Green is ranked by the 247Composite as the nation’s No. 4 running back and No. 27 prospect overall. As a senior, he carried 184 times for 1,285 yards and 20 touchdowns. Green capped his prep career as a U.S. Army All-American.

With Green’s pledge, Michigan now has 27 commitments in the class of 2013. He joins Warren (Ohio) Howland running back DeVeon Smith to give the Wolverines one of the best backfield commitment tandems in the country, and certainly in the Big Ten. Green’s announcement also gives head coach Brady Hoke his 13th Top247 verbal in this current recruiting cycle.
