I think he's a great coach and recruiter but he doesn't seem to be the coach for the long haul, that's just not the track record he's shown. Hoke is the perfect coach for us, because of the fact that he gets Michigan. The staff he's put together and the recruiting he's done make me feel very confident that he can get us back to elite status.

  • perspective from a osu fan, my opinion on this situation is not really about him getting people to flip but rather his continued recruitment of people that have openly committed and even may have said they will not take anymore visits or consider any other schools. Tress did not do this very often, he had a few guys in his tenure but Meyer will be openly recruiting prospects he wants until signing day. Last years flips were caused by the PSU deal and kids that always had very strong interest in us but were deterred because of our coaching and off the field issues. Urban will get more flips than Tressel but going forward it will be way less prevelant than last year.

he may not be, historically he has not stayed in one place very long. Florida for 5 years i think was his longest tenure as a head coach. I think we will know more after 2 or 3 years. He is young enough to be there for a good amount of time but health issues could quickly come back when triggered by stress so i think its hard to say how this will turn out for the long term at this time.

The only people I have seen who seem to believe this are OSU fans.

  • He'll be there til the ND job is open.

    Jer89

  • It was open when he was at Florida and he held a press conference to say "Nope, not going to Notre Dame"

Let's hope he sticks around for awhile. We haven't recruited Ohio and Illinois this well in over a decade.

Honestly, I think that's more a function of Hoke than of Meyer. Meyer is absolutely part of the reason, but Hoke is the real deal.

I think that was before the fall of the Gators, if the opening would of been at the same time as OSU it may of been a different story

  • Wasn't it the same time Notre Dame got Charlie Weis, the same off-season Meyer went to Florida? If thats the case then why wouldn't he just chose Notre Dame then. Unless Weis was the first choice but I though speculation was Meyer to go there. Could be wrong just going of memory

Comeon guys, treat respectful guests nice.
I would like your honest opinion.
I have seen many OSU fans say that a lot of our recruits are not that good because there was no OSU offer.

How many of our recruits do you think would have been offered if Tressel was still the coach.
I just find it strange that players that would have been good enough for Tressel are no longer good enough for Ohio State.

  • I think one thing that makes them say that is the countless times we got those ohio guys then they would do very well, then when they play the teams that recruit nationally they get exposed badly.

  • If Tressel was there, virtually every one of our OH recruits would have been offered. Changing of the guard...

No one but delusional Buckeye fans think that.

Why would you start a post about something so dumb and completely ignore the prevailing opinion and claim "everybody" feels the opposite of that?

You are trolling hard (or just not thinking).

Thanks bro and I am not an insider but i think taco, butt and Conley would have gotten offers from tress. McCray's coach Douglas and tress we're rumored to not get along as tressel never offered his players even the ones deserving (roundtree). Conley is my favorite out of that group with taco having the most upside.

  • Meyer is a very good coach and recruiter and OSU has cache throughout the country. He will successfully recruit with a wider net than Tressel could simply based upon the fact he is the biggest name in the Big10 at the moment (Two NC rings is going to garner attention from HS kids).

I think that the focus on national recruits could cause problems to a certain extent as those kids do not necessarily grow up with the same passion for the rivalries as local kids do. There is also more of a chance for transfer as kids have a tendency to get homesick, etc especially when they are faced with the transition to college and not being the #1 player the moment they walk on campus. The last several classes he brought in at Florida were stacked in the rankings, and imploded without leadership and expectations. I DO think he will get more talented players than what RR could and that could offset that advantage of locality with just physical talent of the players.

I think that Hoke has done a great job with focusing the players and recruits coming in on an identity for the program and a sense of purpose that has been lacking for probably at least a few years longer than even RR's short tenure, and I think it will be interesting to watch what develops over the next several years in this rivalry as I think Michigan's best teams are a few years away yet, all depending on how the lines gel and how much improvement the passing game brings this fall.

  • I think Urban will poach at least three or four Ohio recruits this year from a variety of teams. He is a snake and definitely sells lies to players about how he will use them. He is a great coach and recruiter but I am not sure he is the most honest coach. Just look at the sporting news report.

I think WVU is all out of Ohio players.

Why would he need to? He isn't starting late this year. He should have his class committed without needing to poach other kids.

  • Believe me Michigan has alot of prospects that he wants. The OSU fans do not say that but your class ranking speaks for itself. Notre Dame will be under fire also. If OSU does not have a great year on the field I wold not worry but if they do and either Michigan or Notre Dame falters Urban will definitely be in full poaching mode.
