I did and I disagree. I think at his point we are as good or better than any team in the Big Ten. The Bama game does nothing to change my mind on that.

Fair enough. MSU D looked good - although against a depleted Boise St team. Nebraska played solid and will fix issues like us. What if Hoke says in the coming days "we are not a good team right now.". "We have a lot of work to do. ". He would be right. This is why I said I am curious how the coaches uses this blowout loss as a learning tool.

  • Their DBs abused our receivers
    Their receivers abused our DBs
Our LBs either got blocked and over pursued by 5 yards
And we got no push from our line.

I fully expect the coaches to make the appropriate corrections/adjustments.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

yeah one thing that stood out to me was how their LBs were flying around making plays and ours generally looked unathletic and small. Same with safety play.

Good point. I was thinking we need more playmakers in the back D, aka a LM III. Never can have enough.

  • I was very optimistic with how we'd do tonight. My hats off to Alabama they have a great team. Still very optimistic about our season though. We looked over matched in a few areas. I still do not get how we use DR. Am I crazy thinking he'd be better with more roll outs/ play action? Were he could either pass or run? Just think it'd be hard for opposing corners to stay in coverage with Denards jets.
Our injuries have me worried. Countess and Lewan are two guys I do not think we can afford to lose one positions that are already thin.
I didn't pay attention but does anyone know who and how many freshman played tonight? Norfleet looked pretty good.

  • Obviously Bama handled us easily in the run game, but I was pleased with the way our pass rush looked. If we're getting fairly constant pressure against that Bama line, that unit could be nightmarish in Big Ten play, especially since they'll have had more time to gel.

Also, Devin Gardner is gonna be a problem for B1G secondaries.

These are my main two silver linings

edit: oh, and maybe it was a fluke of the playcalling or something, but we held Eddie Lacy in check, 9 carries for 35 yards as opposed to 11 for 111 for Yeldon. Gotta think that should bode well for containing LeVeon Bell

Ross had that stupid clipping penalty and got sufficiently chewed out by Hoke.

  • I get it that this was a "measuring stick" game for Michigan. However, don't you wonder how our program has gotten this low? I mean, a 41-14 loss?

Doesn't this bother you one bit?

Not really, we just weren't on Bama's talent level tonight.

Nope. Saban is one helluva coach and has had 6 years to recruit and develop the players he wants. He has had incredible recruiting classes the last few years. Hoke is playing catch up right now when you consider the overall talent level between the 2 teams. Got to give Hoke some time.

I think we reach the level we should be at around 2014-2015 - give Hoke time to fill the entire roster with his guys. A few more years of classes comparable to the last two and we'll be golden.

Can we count on that? You do realize how hard it is to fill the roster with the kinds of athletes that only SEC schools have access to, right?

We had a top-10 class last year, we'll have a top-5 class this year. We're squarely in the conversation for athletes like Treadwell and Green. We've got players like Damien Harris interested for the future. Yes, the SEC has a recruiting advantage based on location. But after the 2012 and 2013 classes Hoke has assembled, I can't count him out of recruiting for a national championship-caliber team. shrug

Absolutely! ONE more year of a top five class ensures 4 years of top flight players.

Boise kept beating teams with 35th ranked classes with good coaching. It seams out coaches are pretty good. I'm certain top 10 classes will put us back in the hunt.

Don't we need TWO more years of top recruiting classes so that we'll have 4 years full of top flight players? 4 recruiting classes = 4 years of players, right??

2013 will be a tough year, 2014 will be better, and from 2015 and out we will be perennial contenders
