ohio state spring game?

  • Braxton's play was good not great. But certainly not terrible or poor like some in this thread have said. We already know what he can do with his legs so taking that part out will have an effect on him. But what I was looking for was how he delivered the ball compared to last year. His footwork is getting better, his mechanics look better, and he's throwing more darts and spirals. You didn't see the same wounded duck type throw he had occasionally last year. He had a couple poor throws and a couple very good ones. He has to get a bit more accurate and can't make those late reads. The secondary was playing a lot of zone and keeping things in front of them which is why the passing game for the scarlet was more shorter passes. But he did have good throws on the few he threw down field which was his major issue last year. Also, the defenses knew coming into the game that they were going to throw 75 to 80% of plays because Meyer isn't worried about the run game. This of course changes how the defense plays the game. Overall, he's clearly making strides forward and should certainly have a better season next year than he did as a freshman. There is no doubt he'll be one of the better QB's in the big ten as only a true sophmore.

  • Spring games are largely meaningless. Both teams looked fine. Doesn't really tell us a damn thing.

Agreed. Nothing but a glorified scrimmage.

This. Coaches throw out vanilla scheme and there will be 20 some kids coming in this summer/fall that push or pass some of these guys we are watching this spring.

  • I will say though, PSU will be throwing to their TEs this fall. They were a major focus in their spring game.

Yeah I wouldnt say great at all.Braxton was just throwing bubble passes all day. The O-line was awful had it been a real game Braxton would have been sacked a few times. They also have No play makers the RBs are meh the WRs are terrible. The D is okay but nothing great. So im not worried at all. We are a better team.

Agree. People who say Miller looked good must be going off the box score. I dvr'd the entire game and watched it later and he didn't look good at all to me. His footwork was terrible and he he regularly threw late into traffic. He should have had at least 3 interceptions, but the defenders dropped the ball on two of them. With hard work, he clearly can improve as a passer but he will almost certainly live and die by his feet again in 2012. Kenny Guiton is a better passer at this point in his development. Still, IMO Ohio clearly has the best athletes on defense of anyone in the B10. I still don't know how we hung 40 on them last year (or FWIW how they scored 34 on us). That was just a bizarre game. If Urbie can get his defense playing up to potential, it should take a lot of pressure off of Miller and provide plenty of breathing room for the new offense.

To be fair, since Miller couldn't run he had to throw it even if it was into traffic. That being said, he did make those throws so it is a very accurate point.

Even though it's pretty much practice.... Ur gonna sit here and tell me the spring game was meh and terrible? How would u compare it to ur spring game?

Did anyone see it?I heard that Braxton and there D-line looks great.Heard this from a guy down the street and wanted to knw if there was any truth to this?

Thanks you guys for having something positive to say. I would say Brax had a good game, but the one to watch was Mike Thomas our freshman wideout. He has an amazing ability of getting open. The defensive line looked really good, but I also think the fact that the qb's couldn't run made their jobs a little easier. Our d-line versus your o-line is going to be a pretty interesting series of battles over the next couple of years

  • I thought that Ohios uniforms looks really clean, and Urbans white jacket was very south beach like. I like how he paired that Jacked with Black shorts. Greats combo.

Great post and thanks for the analysis. One guy who certainly stood out for me was Shazier that guy is an instinctive playmaker and he laid out some pretty big hits just in that spring game. Crazy that he's only a true sophomore. It makes me excited to see which of our new LB recruits can maybe have an instant impact like that although we have pretty solid depth returning at the position this year. Still hope guys like Bolden and RJS can shine through cant wait to see them in the fall.

You're welcome for the analysis. I believe Bolden for sure will contribute for you guys right away. He was one that I was disappointed the Buckeyes didn't go hard after. Look to see if he makes an impact on special teams. That's how Shazier got his playing time for us. He kept blowing people up on kick off returns and eventually just couldn't be left off the field, despite being a true freshman.

  • I don't glean much from Spring games because you're not likely to see anything remotely close to what you will see in September. Miller is a talented athlete, much like Denard, but he'll need a capable line to make things happen. I don't know who the OL coach for OSU is, but he'll have his work cut out for him this season.

It's not like they'll suck, but the OL will have a big impact on how well the season goes.

Those are your season records from just a few years ago. Thats the sign of an elite team. (roflmao)
Now really though you were graced by Rich Rod those years and last year we were graced by Jim Bollman.Much can be said by that previous statement alone. I think both teams are elite teams and I believe our rivalry is the greatest in college football also and I dont think 1 or 3 bad seasons can knock a team from elite status as every team is going to have down years and thats what makes college football fun. Do I think Michigan sucks because of their record under the Rich Rod era? No. and do I think OSU should of went 6-7 last year? No..Am I happy that my wife keeps yelling at me to get off the computer? No but whats done is done and complaining aint gonna change it lol...Nice recruiting class btw, I believe it will be OSU and Michigan in the top 2 spots by signing day.

You need to brush up on your football history. Here, let me help you:

    1969-1978 (Bo v. Woody): UM 5-4-1
    1988-2000 (Cooper years): UM 10-2-1
    1969-2011 (since Bo): UM 21-20-2 (a)
    All-time: UM 58-44-6 (a)

In fact, out of the 13 decades we have played each other, OSU has won only 3 (one being the cheating decade of the Vest):

    1890-1899: UM 1-0
    1900-1909: UM 9-0-1
    1910-1919: UM 3-1-1
    1920-1929: UM 6-4
    1930-1939: TIE 5-5
    1940-1949: UM 6-2-2
    1950-1959: TIE 5-5
    1960-1969: OSU 7-3
    1970-1979: OSU 5-4-1
    1980-1989: UM 6-4
    1990-1999: UM 7-2-1
    2000-2009: OSU 8-2
    2010-2011: TIE 1-1 (a)

    (a) Includes 2010 game vacated by OSU.

When you mocked the notion that we are elite, naturally I assumed you were not aware of how dominant we've been against you for the past 100+ years. I thought it best to clear up any such confusion before it gets out of hand. It's bad enough we have to listen to all the Sparty fanboys talk as if college football history began in 2008. OSU fans, of all people, should know better.

  • Jeeezz... You guys act like you're not worried about us, but every other thread on your board is Ohio State this, Ohio State that. That certainly is not the case on the OSU board. Don't let the one game you've won in the last 10 year get to your head. Not to mention 2011 was a piss poor OSU squad.

In regards to being an elite rivalry, both teams MUST be elite. Back in the Cooper years, tOSU typically was the higher ranked team going into The Game with much more on the line. It seemed year after year, UM was knocking the Bucks out of the Nat'l Championship race or the Rose Bowl. That's what made the rivalry great. In my lifetime, there was no bigger game than OSU-Michigan in 2006. It was a game watched not only by each teams' fans, not only by Big Ten fans, but by the entire nation! Both teams are better served by each having strong programs. I definitely feel The Game lost some of its luster during the RichRod years when the outcome felt like a foregone conclusion even before the first snap. Yes, losing last year to Michigan hurts and it always will, but that is what makes the rivalry arguably the greatest in sports!

That's just a straight up lie. I read your board regularly, I can assure you there are plenty of Michigan threads there. As for the Ohio threads, one was started by a bucknut, and another was started by a guy pretending to be a Michigan fan (this particular thread).
