Report -- Texas Pee Wee football league bars 300-pound player - ESPN Dallas

A Texas Pee Wee football league has ruled that a 300-pound seventh grader is too big to play, according to Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW Fox 4's web site.

  • I can see not letting him play in his age class because that becomes a safety issue for the other players as I don't think 12 years olds are build to take hits from 300 lbs yet. However he should be able to play with the older kids.

That being said, how the hell is a 12 year old 300 lbs? There is no way that is muscle.

    Wait...I am in the Blu-Tang? I thought I didn't meet the requirements?

He's allowed to play with the older kids, he said he just doesn't want to. Sounds like a kid who's never played football before, apparently he wants to play with his age group before high school so he can grasp the game better. shrug

Ahh ok, in a rush this morning getting ready for work so didn't read the article. Kinda makes sense that he wants to play with kids his age to learn the game, but if anything he needs to focus on slimming down. There is no way that is healthy for his body and it will lead to problems down the road being so heavy so young.

Apparently any kid over 125 lbs has to play on the OL/DL in Pee-Wee. 125 lb kid, meet 300 lb kid, seems fair to me. shrug lol I agree, though, if he's already 300 lbs as a 7th grader, then that can't be good for his health, considering that he's probably not done growing.

  • not a big deal. rules are rules. he will play middle school football which is enough to learn the basics and get him ready for high school football in two years.

  • In the Little League World Series... isn't there something like a 13 year old pitcher on the Chinese team that is 6'2" and throws awfully hard? Thought I had seen something like that on the promos for the Little League World Series that is currently underway.

    Talk about unfair!!!

Edit: Well... he's REPORTEDLY 13 years old!! huh

Guts and Glue (of the Maize & Blue)... a phrase that Bob Ufer used all the time to describe Ricky Leach.

Not surprised, when I was in 7th and 8th grade, they would bump some of us up to JV and then bump some of the JV kids down and say they were in 7th and 8th grade even though some were in 10th grade. lol

  • I've got a kid in my jiu jitsu class that's 10 years old and 5'5 170 pounds... he is absolutely massive, but dwarfs in comparison to this kid. My 10 year old wasn't able to compete in the past Ohio Grappling Challenge because they wanted to move him up to the 14 year old division, and it wasn't safe for him there. They're stuck in the middle really, because even at the same size they're nowhere near as physically capable as someone 3-4 years older than them.

Yup, I had to play up a division in hockey growing up because of stuff like that but our coach was an idiot and accidentally put us up 2 divisions, needless to say, we didn't win much. lol
