craven's still wants to visit Michigan

  • He picked USC but will still visit per MGoblog poster from live feed.

    Just passing along

    Uncle Newt

  • He's all USC and has been for a long time, I'd rather see our staff put all of their efforts into McQuay or Fuller, more realistic options.

I'm not sure this happens even if true.

It's also in his official announcement.

I doubt he'll switch but it is quite odd that he wants to take officials.

Sure he can visit, but he better pay for it himself.

What should USC do? If they're like Michigan he can't visit after commiting. If they do that, he says screw that and decommits...relationship sours...

I'm sure it was discussed already with USC.

According to USC posters they don't have the same policy that Hoke does about commits not being allowed to visit. They find Hoke's policy ridiculous.

    I like Hoke's policy.

You don't commit until you are committed to the team and your teammates, and you don't get to pick and choose who the rule applies to.

Do I think Cravens wants to visit because he thinks there is a chance Michigan will be better for him? No. But a coach can't see what's in a kids heart (well maybe Hoke can, I don't know), and a coach is destined to lose his team as soon as he starts applying rules to some kids and not to others (I'm looking at you Urbs).

McQauy is a great pickup if we get him, Vandy is gonna be tuff to beat out here, He has been therr 3 times and his buddy is going there.

Fuller is a lock for Va Tech. So we need to spend our time on someone else.

Yeah, I agree that both will be tough pulls but they're both more realistic than Cravens. I would love to land any of the 3.

  • McQuay would be fantastic. I hope that he gets a chance to have a long conversation with Mattison, and the name "Ed Reed" comes up many times. He's the same type of big tackling, ball-hawking all around safety as Reed.

  • If Craven is going to visit he will need to do it this summer because the class maybe full by the time he does. I don't see him visiting.

Yep. Hoke's policy is sound. Not only does he still land top guys this way, but he minimizes risk of decommitment, making it so that when Signing Day rolls around, there is less unpredictability and he can be well-equipped to address the program's position needs.

In Rich Rodriguez's 2009 recruiting class, we ended up having a highly ranked class, but it was not a great class due to position needs not all being met. We NEEDED three defensive tackles in that class, and as signing day approached, I think we had two Southern DT's verbally committed, both of whom were pretty highly ranked. But both were wavering, and in the end, both of them went elsewhere and Will Campbell ended up being the only one in the class. We are still acutely feeling the negative affects of this recruiting failure today.

  • He is not coming here. Whether he visits or not is irrelevant. That is why the USC fans don't care.

Nah. They didn't care about visits before Cravens. We got into a little debate about Hoke's policy on tBB a while back. They have a problem with it.

  • I get the sense Cravens is just afraid to disappoint people and can't say no. Who commits to the favorite school but announces they're still taking visits? Crazy.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

Hoke rests on his laurels, once he accepts a person into Michigan he will go out of his way to make sure they are comfortable w/ their commitment.... even if that means turning away DOD and Anzalone like he did. He practices what he preaches, if he told commits they couldn't visit anywhere and then went behind their back it would be snake. Luckily we have a coach that wants the recruits to start feeling like a team before they ever step on campus, and that has been evident in his 1st 2 recruiting classes.

  • Next question is this....

Is Hoke going to allow him to Visit? Wouldn't he be a hypocrite if he let him come, IF you wont allow your players to go on a visit after a commit why would you allow another committed player to visit you?

I love this policy by the way, makes a kid think twice before committing and it doesn't lock up scholarships.

Then what school in their right mind would accommodate the kid? I hope not us. We're not in the business of entertaining 17year olds who just want to tour the nation.

  • Like said above...more than likely by the time he decides on an official visit, we won't have any spots available anyway.

Let's review Hoke's policy. It's simple. A recruit who wants to take visits is one Hoke does not see as committed. Any kid. It doesn't matter if it's a Michigan commit or any other school. So, to put it simply the answer is no it's not hypocritical. Hoke just wouldn't consider Cravens as committed to USC. The same way he wouldn't consider a Michigan kid taking visits as being committed to Michigan.

With that being said, I don't think Hoke will allow Cravens to visit unless Cravens pays for it himself because i don't believe Cravens has any real interest in Michigan.

Wasn't Shaq Thompson turned down for that specific reason?
