Thanks Steve! Definitely an underrated player. I think he really fits what Michigan is looking for in an outside receiver. York can really go up and and get the football at its highest point.

  • Would be surprised if he didn't commit in the near future.

  • We love this kid guys.

He had Bowling Green and Toledo offers so wasn't a big name that we necessarily had our eye out for but he still made top performer's lists at two separate loaded events, the NLA 7on7 in Pittsburgh and the Ohio Nike Camp.

We bumped him to a high 3-star today and will keep him on the radar as a possible four-star in the future.

Best of NLA 7on7 East Regional

Shane Morris was one of the top performers at the New Level Athletics East Regional outside of Pittsburgh but one prospect made an even bigger splash.

Top performers from the Ohio Nike Camp

With Big Ten commitments all over the field at the Ohio Nike Camp, the atmosphere was competitive and a few talented prospects rose up to make our top performers list.

Thanks! From reading all the reports, his one weakness seems to be his speed- would you say it is sufficient at a Div-1 level?

  • Now that Michigan has offered him the rest of the country will follow.

  • Wow, great stuff, thanks guys!

I think we're in good shape for a commitment soon, but do you think an MSU offer would give him pause?

Speed is so overrated. The kid doesn't exactly look slow. A guy who runs great routes, catches everything and can use his body to shield defenders can be an incredibly successful receiver.

Very interesting re-tweet from York just now:

    Garrett Elliott ‏ @BigRed6810
Congrats to @Ct_York1 on his offer and commitment to U-M! Not rated, but brings good size to the receivers. Must be a special day for him.

Still could be. Might wait to see if State throws their hat in the ring.

Not really when you're trying to compete on a national level. Speed is v. important...see, e.g. our receivers unable to get any separation in the Sugar Bowl.

Agree with the rest of what you said though, kid looks like he's got good get-off at the line, good hands and ball skills. Would love to see what he could do in space with some running room but that QB he's got doesn't exactly hit him in stride...

edit: oh, didn't see the INT at the end of his video, ya he looks to be decently fast.

I would take a great route runner with great hands and average speed over a kid who runs average routes and has ok hands with great speed any day of the week.

Completely agree. An excellent route runner can get open much easier than a fast guy. Yeah, he won't distance himself after the catch the same as a guy like Allen or LaRue will, but I think he'll be better at getting open and catching the ball, which is pretty important when you're trying to compete at a national level.

Seems like just a fan. Journalist student at OU who graduated from Rochester High. His twitter name comes because he appears to be a large red-haired person.

York tweeted "UM bound" or something so that's why he got that idea.

  • This is the kind of kid where you need coaches that can immediately evaluate talent and pull the trigger. I trust the coaches on this one...clearly they loved what they saw. Moreover, this was not a one hit parade...this is the second camp where he has blown up.

  • Why would we assume MSU such a pull for WR's? This last draft they had none of their top guys drafted till like Day 3 I beleive

It's just a fan I assume, but found it strange that York would re-tweet it. Most likely just excitement over all the mentions he was getting and didn't completely read that it said 'committed.'

I wouldn't say overrated, but I do think it can be offset by good routes and catching the ball. DJ Wlliamson was fast as hell, but obviously wasn't going to ever see the field and transferred.

Fast + good routes == elite talent
Fast + bad routes == meh.
Slow + good routes == serviceable receiver
Slow + bad routes == not gonna make it
