Wolverines landed in-state WR

Jones was already invited by Pitt & Tenn to take official visits. We will (eventually) have room to take up to 25 in this class. The chances of us landing all of our remaining targets are very slim. We will have room for Treadwell, no matter what. Jones could move to safety. In fact, I wouldn't doubt that our coaches view him as the probable Plan B to McQuay.

I think James Crawford or Delano Hill are the plan B's to LM3....we still need the WR depth with Jones

No.. it wouldn't make sense to wait. Other Big Ten teams were starting to show interest and were close to offering. Let's say Jones got a Purdue or Wisconsin offer and de-committed from CMU to commit there. It just became A LOT harder to pry him away from a 2nd commitment to a B1G school.

And you're worried about ruffling feathers? Are you serious? They've been extremely patient with Treadwell and reiterated after Jones committed that he's still their top target.

    Just a quick bump.

Alabama, Florida St., Georgia, Michigan St., and UCLA all came by to see Jones this week.

He told them all he was solid to UM.

  • I usually don't care much about rankings but, how is he only ranked 84? I just watched his brief highlight tape and he seemed to have the intangibles you look for in a WR. Anyways, im glad Hoke and the other coaches recognize his talent.

Thanks Clarkw267. I just talked with Jones and he did confirm he's been getting a lot of new interest from elite programs around the country. He said no new offers but he thinks Georgia was close before he told them he was solid to Michigan. Definitely an underrated prospect.

More diamonds in the rough for us. The talent evaluation on this staff is top-notch.

You ain't kidding. With him and Stribling alone, we've got two real gems. This type of eye for talent is going to continue to pay off in a major way. As the recruiting game accelerates more and more, it becomes more and more essential to be able to identify quality talent early, and Hoke and Co. can certainly do that with the best of 'em.

  • Lol, looking at some of his old articles, and the comments to the article about an unofficial he took to Penn State last spring. Guys on there were speculating whether Jones would play DB, or if he would bulk up and play OLB.

So all of a sudden your a fan of Jone's?
I can show where you posted in a reply to mine where I said he was a very good player that flew under the radar, and you said Roy Roundtree was better

    Nice

I liked him when he was offered. The coaches always know more than us. The fact AL and GA came to see him speaks volumes.

I still don't see it. His combination of height and athleticism is pretty common, and he doesn't seem to have great ball skills. I get why those guys were wanting him to fill out into an OLB.

But folks that have forgotten far more about football than I will ever know think he is the real deal, so I'll eat crow.

He's a body catcher. The difference between Jones and York is pretty apparent watching their tapes in this regard.

Part of the reason I like York over the other two guys is that he so often filled the "Junior Hemingway just come down with this prayer" role for his team. I see Jones as that slot guy who catches the ball on the move and with space that Borges doesn't utilize a whole lot.

That said, both Jones and Dukes played on teams that featured a heavy running offense, so they are likely further away from their ceiling than York. Plus, I've always tied my expectations to team interest and offers more than highlight tapes (I'm no expert at evaluation, and highlights don't show the full picture), so my expectations for DaMario definitely took a jump.

I'm excited to see what he can do.

    OLB...

Well I've never looked at him as a OLB because it was obvious he didn't have the frame for it by the time I knew who he was. But back in the context of last spring, when he was referring to himself as a really versatile athlete that could go both ways, some of his limitations might lead one to hope that he was destined to add alot of bulk.

He does apparently carry more bulk than I originally thought, though. That 6'2" 195 is a pretty good number, and some scouting reports have said good things about his physique.
