Wolverine247 NCAA 13 Online Dynasty (PS3) - Adv. to Wk 12 (8/9)

  • Its on you.

  • I knew I was done after my second possession.

You received the ball and marched easily. My defense was terrible. This was all while I was using defensive keys to shift the line and linebackers, pressing, blitzing, whatever.

Then I have a holding play on your kickoff, and a false start on my first play. On the next play I run a lead option which works great except for my QBs gloves were to sticky and when I pressed the pitch button he extends his arm entirely but keeps the ball and gets sacked for a few yard loss. Now back within the 10 and needing 25 plus yards for the first down I pass, but the AI's complete inability to handle a scramble allowed me 10 easy yards. Then I hit a open receiver on a corner route and he drops it.

Next drive I have two runs where the blocking completely falls apart, including that line animation where my guard and center double team your defensive tackle and fall down in the process. Then there was the screen play where I was sacked before the RB even made it out of the pocket. Every play I called in the first half resulted in a loss unless it was a trips smash or a curl wheel, which are almost always open. Of course if it is not blindingly wide open, a safety will break on the ball far quicker than your receiver and make a leaping interception.

    This game isn't football.

Ah. Who'd you pass commissioner on to? I can keep this going as long as everyone still wants to play.

I'll still do it, but my time is limited. I played my game this week, I won (!), but I might be a little slower overall. We should also recruit a few more players after the season is over.

BTW, my recruiting is also amazing.

I think the read option is a better choice than the speed option, because it gives you 2 sides to pick from. Defending the speed option is easy. Also I had my pass D on aggressive the whole time with my zone coverage aggressive as well because I didn't think your QB could beat me over the top (he did once, but he also missed more). I knew he was more of a threat running so I tried to keep as much pressure on you as possible with blitzes. The games D-line is pretty badly designed though, as well as the safety play. These things can be adjusted with sliders. I'd also say that Georgia Tech is a tough team to try and walk into because the players in that offense fit a very specific scheme, aka they can't catch a ball because they never need to.

  • Also is there a magic mod power that would let me have control of this thread? Don't want to make you have to update it for me.

Sadly no but I'm sure you can PM Todd and ask him about it, until then, I'll update it for you if you want.

I did pick GT in large part because I prefer running a spread option, and I figured that they would be somewhat capable of doing that.

    As for playcalling:

I almost never run speed option or power option because the RT will always pick up the SDE and the linebackers flow to the outside well before the interior linemen reach the second level. I will sometimes run either of those plays with a FB, but that extra blocker usually isn't enough to overcome the heavier and shifted defensive alignments I face in response.

When I do run option, which is often, I run zone reads and triple option that makes the read off of the SDE, or lead options which pulls the weakside guard playside. Of course these have huge problems:

Weakside or middle blitzes get into the backfield before the double teaming guard disengages the nose tackle. If there is no blitz, then about a quarter of the time the super swim move that middle linebackers put on my offensive linemen shoots the linebacker into the gap for a one yard loss. The worst is the incredible often instance where the SDE stays at home and the MIKE blitzes unmolested into the backfield, resulting in a three yard loss regardless of read.

On the lead option, the guard is often completely oblivious, cutting back to block someone who is already out of the play, or better yet, running straight between the safety and linebacker to engage the air behind them. Of course there is the strange problem of my QB never wanting to pitch the ball. They sped up the animation to make it more realistic, but I can't figure out how to get my QB to consistently let go of the ball.

So basically, by blitzing all the time you completely jammed up a running game that should have been extremely effective at counter overpursuing blitzers. I caught on really quickly to your blitzing, and tried to run that HB slip screen, but I got sacked (of course Washington went through the entire throwing motion but still couldn't let go of the ball) before my running back started his route.

Of course my guys couldn't catch or hit the broad side of a barn with their passes either, whcih didn't help.

In the end, I think there are just a very few animations that occur between blocker and defender, and these include absurd NFL street style dominations. The small sample size and high proportion of absurd animations means that the absurd animations will occur far too frequently. It also seems that being on the road makes them occur a whole lot more.

As a result, there are innumerable times where it seems like a high schooler has been matched up with an NFL player.

When you get into the automatic adjustments to audibles by the computer, and the terrible safety play and pointlessness of zone defense, the game just sucks.

  • Bye weeks suck, but I did just get D Rob the heisman in my offline dynasty. He broke the school record in passing and rushing. Both yards and TDs

  • Will advance after Rabid Wolverine (Iowa) finishes up. TAMU, did you ever sort out your PS3 issues?

  • I've turned the ball over 37 times this season... highest in the NCAA, and 10 more than the next highest team. Yet I'm still 10-1 shrug

  • Washington/Iowa, are you guys gonna play your games or should I just advance?

Sounds good to me, ill get my game in tonight...Just wanted to let you know that me and the wife will be in Toronto next week from Wed. to Sun. Hopefuly we can get through this season and I can make my first couple weeks in yr 2 byes. Id hate to miss one of these last couple games since I'm close to the conference title

    BlueDrew

  • My last game was crazy. I beat Miami with a long TD pass with around 30 seconds to go. I thought I had my first loss when they went up 4 with a minute left

    BlueDrew

  • Advanced, but I d/c during my game. Hopefully it lets me replay it, if not I would hope the computer could beat a 2-9 Maryland team.

Man, the first game I played I d/c while up 42-10, had to play again and barely won.

  • BJ Daniels just broke the NCAA single game rushing record...using the read option the DE kept going for the RB. I hadat least 3 50+ yard runs. It was still a close game because my D couldn't get any stops when I needed them

    BlueDrew

  • I regret to inform you guys that I have retired from this dynasty. I just didn't find any fun in it, and I found that I had limited time on my PS3, which I spent on a different dynasty with my friends.
