Drake Harris wearing the no. 1

That's yours if you Go Blue.

Definitey my favorite pic. Man, landing Harris this year and Campbell next would be AWEsome

I'm not sure what Speights situation is but it is becoming increasingly popular in some areas for athletes to do high school in 5 years so they can develop more. If I'm not mistaken "Johnny Football" did the same thing.

    +1 for the response, thanks.

Depending on the injury, I could see it affecting schoolwork. At the very least, a broken collarbone would make it difficult if not impossible to write/type.

I broke my collar bone in 10th grade after landing on my shoulder wrong high pointing an interception in a pick up game...anyways later that week I was in math class, and having trouble staying awake because of all the meds I was on, and my teacher rebuked me (she was a lesbian) and had no empathy for the pain I was in...That stupid censored

Unless a post was deleted, all I see is an honest question. Do you think you'd miss a year of school over a broken collarbone?

What I see is two Sparties on our board trying to make an issue out of something that's not an issue. Speight was granted an extra year of HS eligibility because he missed his junior year do to an injury. That's it. That's the entire story. It's not important what Spartyland thinks of it.

Thanks for this and the other legit responses that don't talk about things like "butthurt." +1. Still curious about it, both my brothers and a few friends coach high school sports here in MI and I've never heard of anything like it. I can think of 1-2 kids off the top of my head who could have had a much better shot at college sports with an extra year to recover and play again.

I think it's definitely more common in more football-centric HS areas. FL, TX, CA, VA, OH, etc.

  • Makes sense, I've never heard Johnny Football was a 5 year hs player too. Most of the kids I'm thinking of played hockey, thats a sport where often you know really early if the kid will be a stud/have a legit shot at the nhl, an extra year in HS to get college looks might not be worthwhile.

You and Ducks are the only ones who seem to see it that way. Everyone else is having reasonable conversation. I agree it's not important what we think about it, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it rationally.
