Will we beat Notre Dame?

  • Interested to see what Wolverine247 thinks.

Myself, I do believe we win. For one thing, I have confidence in Denard. Especially against ND. lol He seems to have his best games against ND.

ND's front 7 concerns me, but our OL > MSU's OL. We should be able to have a better time with them than MSU did.

A big part of this game is Fitzy imo. If he can have a big game, that opens up the field for Denard. It would obviously help our offense TREMENDOUSLY if Fitzy can have a big game. Defensively, I am not sure if I should be concerned with Golson or not. He was great against MSU, but I have not seen enough of him to really decide if he can carry a team to victory if needed, which I think he will have to do, because I think we can shut down Cierre Wood.

I honestly don't know at this point. It really is hard to tell what we have at this point. I don't for one minute think Air Force would of been able to run the ball like that without the option. Can our secondary cover? How good is our pass rush? Will Fitz and the run game with the RB's be better? Can Denard continue to improve his chemistry with Gardner and Funchess?

    Yeah, I don't know either.

Honestly, our D looks suspect. The Irish look suspect too. So...maybe shrug?

I call it a coin flip...but that pretty much fits with the last three years anyway.

    This.

Also, we'll have the inhuman effort by someone, if the past three years are anything to go by.

    50-50 at best.

I am curious to see how MSU plays them next week. DR had to carry the load ... FT looked lost.

  • We have #16 they don't its as simple as that. D has to get some turn overs like last year

  • If we can throw the ball effectively, we'll win. ND has an atrocious secondary.

Complete toss up. After today I can't say that our defense has shown much, but they didn't exactly play that well either.

  • As of today, I'd say probably not. But if the O-line creates a few holes for Denard...

  • Air Force was a far worse team to schedule then Alabama.....I dont think this type of opponent prepared the team in getting better for big ten play. Yes tackling can be improved on in any game, and maybe the CB's got more experience in run support, and maybe the DL got more experience in avoiding cut blocks, but overall AF did not play to any of our strengths, if we have any

  • Winning in South Bend is always tough, so I will never go into that game expecting a win because even the best Michigan teams have struggled there for some reason. It does boost my confidence that they only beat Purdue 20-17 and that they don't have Michael Floyd anymore, but I still give them the edge in this game as of now.

  • The difference in the ND game will be ND's QB. It will be an electric atmosphere that he hasn't played in yet and if we can get to him early it will be a long day for ND, if not then it will be a long day for UM. Key to Game: pass rush

  • ND's lack of a secondary will be their downfall. The key to beating Michigan is forcing Denard Robinson to beat you through the air, and when the secondary is as decimated as ND's, they can't afford to sell out to stop the run. If anything, they'll have to stay back and give the secondary extra help, especially if we've got tall guys like Devin Gardner and Devin Funchess running wild downfield.

As a result, the running game should open up for both Denard and Fitz. Hopefully Fitz finds himself and looks more like the Fitz of last year.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Cierre Wood - he'll only be playing in his second game off his suspension, so we'll see if he's fully back. I think our defense will do enough to keep us in this game, and I can't see ND's defense doing enough to keep us from winning.

Bring on the irish. It's gonna be interesting who B.Kelly starts at QB. When he played Rees at QB late yesterday in the 4th quarter & he threw a incomplete pass boy that ND crowd got on his case. Once he lead them to winning field goal he was branded a savior.

I really wonder what the DL will look like in that game because of the pass rush and I assume less frequent power-run plays. The end of the game yesterday featured Jake Ryan and Frank Clark on the ends with Black and Pipkins, Campbell, or Washington in the middle. Will we see a similar configuration with Cam Gordon taking the SAM and Ryan sliding down to the DL to get more pressure?

As of right now, my guess would be we see a configuration of :
    DL: Ryan, Washington/Campbell/Pipkins, Black, Clark
LB: Cam Gordon, Demens/Bolden, Ross (think his athleticism trumps Morgan's experience in this one, but also wouldn't be surprised if Hawthorne got in for this game since he played well against ND last year because of his athleticism)
CB: Taylor, Floyd - Avery at the Nickel
S: T. Gordon, Kovacs -- don't think Jarrod Wilson will be ready for prime time against ND

  • I am not sure. One good thing is that our guys, especially the young ones, have already played in an atmosphere like the one in South Bend against Bama.

It'll be tough, though, as all of the games against ND are. We've pulled the last 3 games out of our asses, and our luck has to run out sometime. Makes me nervous for sure.

  • It's a toss-up game but because it is in South Bend I'd give ND a slight advantage.

Fortunately, Golson will be starting this Saturday under the lights at MSU. That should help with the electric atmosphere issue.
