Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • Mitch Again said...

But aren't you worried about your OL?

OSU fans should be nervous about the future of the offensive line. Especially in 2014 we will only have 3 true tackles who aren't freshman.

Did you watch the Super Bowl? The MVP's were clearly the Ravens offensive line. Flacco had lots of time and the running back was often three yards down field before touched. Maybe the national championship game? How did the winning teams offensive line look in that game?

Also, you will notice you don't need SEC skill players(look at the skill positions for each Super Bowl team) if you have a dominate offensive line.

Good luck with your converted D-lineman

This is college, not NFL. Quite different. Bama's D has the most to do with all of their success. Same goes for San Fran and Baltimore

You've seen that oregon offense right? Imagine if they ever had an elite D. That's going to be us. Im guessing they never knocked it out of the ballpark with their OL recruiting. Scraps in other words. Coached well though. Hello Warriner! Speaking of oregon, welcome Dontre!!! Speed, speed, speed, speed with those offensive players Urban has landed. So exciting!! Cant wait to grab Vonn Bell Wednesday

How many did we have last year? 1 that wasnt a freshman? Haha. 12-0. Ive never seen this much talk about OL in my life. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Warriner will fix any problem we have. Just like he did last year

Elite D? Are we talking about the same team that almost gave up 50 to Indiana? You've got a long ways to go before talking about an elite D, and you won't be elite with Fickell as a DC.

  • The following will be off topic, but whatever.
How lame is it that Buckeye fans refer to Elliot as EzE ...
Especially how they take extra care to capitalize both E's and a lower case z. Because it matters, damnit
They must all have it macro'd on their keyboard because they love to type it, too.
OMG! EzE, EzE, EzE!!!! Bro! High fives and dutch anchors for all the cool kids.
    Ya'll are special

It'll be funny when "EzE" flips to Mizzou on Wednesday.

I understand that but if we keep on having to move TEs to tackle its only a matter of time till it will back fire and we will have a big problem. Do you remember the 06/07 championship game? UFs DEs killed are tackles all game because OSU had a guard at RT. Statements like Warriner will fix any problems would be the same as UM fans saying don't worry Jeff Hecklinski will fix any problems we have at WR.

Nah, Warinner is a fantastic OL coach. He took what was a lazy, under-performing, terrible OL from 2011 and made it into one of the 2 or 3 best OLs in the B1G. Bollman made turds out of gold, Warinner makes gold out of turds. They'll restock in 2014 and move from there.

One thing I feel a lot of you guys are missing is that we had something like 12 underclassmen (FR/SO) OL last year. Give Warinner two years with any OL before they ever have to see the field, and I trust the product he'll develop. He turned a 3* TE in Reid Fragel into one of the 5-10 best OL in the B1G in one off-season of work.

I'm concerned that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how recruiting works.

  • I think Wariner is a good OL coach. But talent matters, and they need a good 2014 OL class, otherwise no matter who the coach is, they may struggle.

I have said over on their board that they would probably only get 1 of those 2. I will be surprised a little if Elliott stays with the Buckeyes. We will see if Urban can convince him otherwise.

Hey I'll admit that OSU can coach up two and three star OL and make them above average if OSU fans admit that Michigan can do the same with their WR's. lol Of course Michigan won't be trotting 5 WR's onto the field at one time.....but we can ignore that for now.

    hownowbrowncow

  • Do Buckeye fans like Fickell still? The Cro-Magnon who played in the NFL, name escapes me, is great for your LB's. Good recruiter with a Superbowl Ring, but Fickell??

IMHO Fickell is the weak link. I think you will see him get a chance to be a HC at a MAC school. The one thing I will miss when that happens is that Fickell is a hell of a recruiter. The other coach you are speaking of is Vrabel, Player LB/DE for the pats.

How many of Meyer's teams have struggled at OL in the past? How many OL has he had on scholarship while winning 2 NC vs what he has now and going forward? I think this guy knows what he's doing. He has not gotten all of the OL he has offered. So what? He put out a ridiculous number of offers. That's how you get the best players. You have to try first. I've even heard a few of the radio guys talking about how next year and the year after they are likely to clean up because of the log jam at UM and ND on OL.

BTW. UM may be needing 5 wr on the field trying to come back from the large deficits Meyer's Buckeyes are putting them in. At least their OL will be fresh. That could be fun to watch.

What large deficit did UM ever get in? 26-21 is not a large deficit as you are saying. Until your so called god of a coach beats us by 3 scores, then we will talk. Until then, tell your boy Urbz to step his game up and not miss on all of his OL but 1 this year.

The Gator team that Michigan beat w/ Tebow struggled up front and was a large reason why Michigan won.

"He has not gotten all of the OL he has offered." Not only has he not gotten them all, he's got Lisle and....?

I heard a few of the cockeye radio guys talking about how um was going to clean up Ohio & the Midwest and get whoever he wants, but he still loses recruiting battles to UM & ND. But if their predictions make you feel better, then more power to ya.

And obviously Michigan is going to be way behind in the games against ohio, I mean the talent ohio is bringing in is head & shoulders above the scrubs UM is bringing in. So hopefully the power goes out when they play, otherwise there's no shot to beat that squad.

I was just wishful thinking for the future. How else do you get 5 wr in a pro set?

I thought OSU signed 2 OL.

Thanks! Yea Vrabel. Fickell needs to go to Youngstown or BG or somewhere to hone his skills. Kid got a raw deal, but he wasn't ready
