This hurts in the OL department, that's why it's funny. OLs are one of the positions where it's very, very, very difficult to come in and contribute as a freshman, so pushing back one of the OLs reduces viable depth even more. OSU was already looking at depleted depth in 2014-15, and it could be even worse with O'Connor gone.
On top of that, I'm a firm believer in the bird-in-the-bush v. bird-in-the-hand theory - it's infinitely more valuable to have a solid OL in the fold already than merely the potential for more. What happens if Skipper and Hunt stick with their commitments? It sounds all well and good that there's more open spots now, but Urban hasn't exactly knocked it out of the park with OL recruiting so far, and there's no reason to believe that he'll turn it around suddenly in the next couple weeks.

I'm not sure why that would be funny, all it does is open 2 more spots for Urban to fill this year with players that may contribute to his system. I'm all for it. If they guys weren't going to get playing time, move on to somewhere they'll be happy and we'll get to add maybe one of the Oregon commits or Timmons from KY. All good to me.

I get ya, but honestly, if you have someone on your team that either A) isn't "getting it" and not going to play or B) just isn't happy for whatever reason and wants to be somewhere else, then the odds of them becoming a valuable contributer aren't very good. So I say, I hope he finds what he's looking for and I'm not worried with our OL numbers, we have 13 or 14 OL on roster, a few more on the way, and a few more next year. Hope it works out, but little I can do, so I choose not to sweat it..

I'll agree that someone who isn't happy probably won't be a valuable contributor (see Dwight Howard, Lakers), but the fact of the matter is, he was a talented 4-star prospect and it always hurts to lose good depth, especially when you're in OSU's current situation.

it does, i would have rather not seen him go with our numbers, even if he wasnt going to contribute solid depth is important. I am staying optimistic about the converted Dlineman just because they played Oline in highschool. Most of Farris offers were actually for the Oline. However, just as an earlier poster said contributing right away on the Oline is almost impossible which is why it is important not to have a few stay and contribute from each class even if it be for depth.

no wonder you guys keep signing these top classes. Why else would recruits go to Cbus....
BTW It's awesome to have these conversations with you buckeyes who come in peace to give your take on the situation and talk football. Reminds me of being back home where I'm surrounded with friendly buckeyes fans. Good work fellas.

Im not arguing your A and B points, but the point of a recruit is not to have these what if clauses/excuses. A recruit should be able to provide depth and play making ability to the team now and into the future, if you resort to either A or B, you missed a golden opportunity to make your team immediately better, and will have to wait for the person who takes his scholarship to pan out, which they might not, which contributes even more to the initial loss in the first place.

Looking at the recruiting list, rankings, etc. I think the BUCKEYES will be very happy come NSD.
As for our OL, we don't have a weak OL....evidenced by the rushing yardage we averaged per game. All of our OL are back except for the converted TE that played RT. Now, if we have a bunch of injuries next season, we could be in a bit of trouble, but what team wouldn't be? Same could be said for some of UM's positions as well. What if DGard goes down? What if Braxton goes down? I like our OL, and it is a priority for 2014 as we already have one commit and Trout is said to be a very heavy OSU lean. I look for us to take 5 OL in 2014, so I'm not too concerned. Our actual weakness was at WR/Slot, which we have a couple promising playmakers coming in, if they pan out they could be great. It's a crapshoot.
