Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • Swiftbucki said...

i am not a recruiting expert like all of you but this thread makes me wonder how tosu could be left with scraps when we have had two great classes in a row and if i am not mistaken 3 of last four we were ranked higher then mich? not sure about that. if we are left with ol scraps then i would say m has been left with skill possition scraps? ie green will be blue but would have been a buck if we had continued with him and not pulled his offer. i would say that is the defination of picking up scraps....just wondering who will be carring the ball next year and catching your passes? seriously is there some stud redshirt i am not aware of? or is hoke going to switch a lineman to rb? just my opinion but any game that m will need to score more then 21 could be a loss. long term i do think m will be ok but next year i see another drop off coming before the climb

first of all, we are talking about OL; not the whole class. second, ohio didn't pull his offer; he didn't want to play in ohio's offense. read the thread before you comment or GTFO!!!!!

If Derrick Green ... #1 rated RB in the country on both Rvals and Scout ... qualfies as scraps, then more scraps please!

Their overall classes were excellent. Their OL classes..not so much. Most honest Buckeyes admit they need to have a solid 2014 OL haul, or risk have longer term issues.

Oh, I got ya, so when they were talking to "dickBuck1" they were REALLY talking to O'Conner?? Now it is all coming clear...I need to go back through all the threads on both boards now and re-read them...Damn.

Feel free to take your time.

I don't think I can do it....that would mean re-reading 100 threads with "Soflabuck" posting in them. No way....

Might be Munger....he's visiting FSU as an OL recruit. We had him pegged at DT, but many think his best position to be OL...we'll see...I don't care nor lose sleep over 18 year old kids having trouble deciding where to spend their college career. Hope he makes a decision that's right for him. OSU, nor any other real team will be made or lost with one recruit...meltdowns are funny though...

You could be losing both O'Connor and Munger. Not that either is a "must have" talent, but if you lose Munger he will be the third decommit you've had from this class. Maybe Urbie doesn't have some special magical touch when it comes to retaining and flipping commits after all? And O'Connor is a desperately needed body on the OL, which expains the meltdown on BN. Even if you somehow pull a good 2014 OL class, they won't be ready to really contribute until at least 2015 or 2016. But then again, being the highly knowlegeable football fan that you are, I'm sure you knew that.

Your point on oconnor is well taken. Hes important. Hoping he stays. And, relying on '14 guys is not a winning strategy. We need depth, and for guys to be ready to step up. Our oline starters missed zero games last yr due to injury. Id love a repeat but its unlikely. But the staff is big on munger, probably due to his versatility. The good news is he was just taking a trip. Hes all buckeye, his words, per bill greene. Big sigh of relief. Hunt and/or skipper remain the most important kids on our board imo. Depth, depth, depth....please.

Edit. Apparently our staff isnt necessarily big on munger, per tdays BH. Ha. Guess thats why im a fan and NOT an insider. Long live recruiting drama!!

well good thing ohio isnt recruiting him then....but tosu went in a different direction that much is very clear and told him to look elsewhere....personally i think we made a mistake on this kid, i think he will be a hell of a back. actually hope he plays for the blue so i can watch him weekly.... he would start from week one for m for tosu he would be maybe 4th in line good luck to him......so let me get this straight i have to read the entire 55 pages before giving my opinion? not

no doubt we need to land some linemen but to say we are getting the scraps at ol is not true....like mr woodson said if dawson and decker are scraps please keep them coming....we must be good at rb if we are telling the number 1 rb to look elsewhere huh?????

Errr...I assume you meant Dodson. Despite an OSU offer, Dawson is coming to Michigan.

Also, as you can see from the OP, we're talking about 2013 and beyond. Nobody's contesting the fact that OSU got a good complement of OLs in 2012.

That was mewave. And what i say about accepting a scholarship, getting home sick and bailing on your team(especially in a thin OL)is true damn it!biggrin Whatever. On to the next one

Yeah...I think that's kinda the difference between you and us. Nobody on this board was calling Caleb Stacy a "pussy" when he decommitted a few days before NSD to stay home.

lol Hey, in all fairness, "pussy" was directly quoting SonnyD - that's what he called Joey O'Connor as soon rumors of him leaving hit Bucknuts.

I really don't sweat kids transferring out or changing their minds before signing day. A LOT of things can be the reason. A kid can see the writing on the wall that he won't get playing time, he could just not click with the coaches, he may be home sick, he may not be willing to make a switch to a new position, etc...who knows? I don't wish any ill will toward the kids, I look at it as if they either didn't want to be here or weren't going to play then let's let them go be happy and fill the spot with someone that will be happy.

As for the OL, yes, we do need some good ones next year for sure. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say a kid brought in today won't be able to contribute until 2015/16 though. There are many teams having success with some underclass OL. Your last 2 OL classes should be an example of that as I'm sure you're expecting some good minutes from some of last years class.

I'm not familiar with koobjoe's work, but I'd definitely make a "trial" trade.

Soflabuck comes to the board with a different user name every day spewing crap, gets banned, comes back with another one. I can't imagine having that much time to spend on it or care enough to get a rise out of people.
