Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • CMXI said...

At this point, I don't even know if that'd be enough. Urban Meyer might have to start adopting kids to build an OL.

roflmao But then he couldn't promise them all the glorious trash he undoubtedly tells other recruits. He would have to read another list of fatherly duties that he failed at.

But this might finally be the one thing that gets him to actually pay attention to his family!

  • You guys funny.....

Urban is a terrible recruiter, will be lucky to ever have a top 10 class....except for last year, oh and this year....

I'm still a believer that the best DL will roll the best OL, so I'm good with him loading up on the D side of the ball. If it doesn't work out then you'll have the last laugh with all your OL recruits. Only time will tell.

Really? That's why LSU rolled over TAMU and Alabama this year?

A top 10 class doesn't mean much if it doesn't fill needs btw.

Exactly, and as far as OSU goes, Urban wants to build a defense with a two deep rotation at DL and speed at LB/DB. That's what he went for first. He then needs playmakers with speed, that's who he has gone after. Lost out on Quick, but looks like Gibson may come join Elliott and Marshall. He got one of the top dual threat QB's, from Texas, and now he's trying to find one more OL for this class. He already has a decent group interested at OL in '14.

I'm not knocking your OL recruits, they are very good. I'm just wondering how many OL is enough and would you be better served maybe taking one or two less OL and get a couple speedy playmakers on the outside.

No, and for your previous comment there is a line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball I have seen very few coaches wanting to win one and not the other. Typically you here win the line of scrimmage not win the defensive line of scrimmage but not so much the offensive. shrug

Also, our defensive lineman are pretty highly ranked, much higher then your OL class. Having just looked at the rankings of your DL and our OL it looks very close. I would say our OL rankings are higher then your DL rankings as a whole.

I like the whole "You need speedy playmakers!" Argument, mainly because some of the most successful football teams don't have speedy playmakers. But, if you feel that fast slot receivers are more important that the OL, then be my guest.

I would have to disagree about speedy playmakers....Alabama's receivers were constantly behind ND's DB's...That's speed...

For the last 4 years you guys have had one of the premiere "speedy playmakers" in football...would you say he wasn't the difference in most of your games? I sure would.

As for OL vs DL recruits, I just believe it's a little easier to coach someone into a good OL. The freaks on the DL's in the SEC are pure talent, then when coached are sick... There is no way you can coach what Clowney has for talent, you can teach him technique etc.. but the main difference in the SEC and all of us has been the speed of their DLines. Those big F'ers are in the backfield before we can hand off. That's what it will take to compete with Bama.

  • The last 2 posts make alot of sense. I believe ill put my trust into the 2 time Nat Champ coach who went undefeated with a 6-7 team from the year before. Thanks

Hell, if Kelly leaves, we better be on the phone with Colin McGovern to take the 6th OL spot in this class. He had a lot of major interest in Michigan, but just got shut out, and I'd rather have him than any of our other OL targets now.

  • The recruit I most want from Notre Dame's class is LB Jaylon Smith. He's the crown jewel.

I doubt many recruits leave the class - the reason ND has still gotten such good recruits over the last 20 years is because of Notre Dame, not because of the coach.

  • Hell, in past years when ND finished 7-5 they didn't leave...why would they leave now?

Oh, and you better hope Smith doesn't leave...his #2 choice is OSU.

lol Well, Smith didn't leave, but another LB certainly did...I'm so glad Anzalone got shut out of Michigan's LB recruiting.

And doing Early entry there starting...tomorrow.

Which makes you think, he was only going to ND if they won the BCS game?

Thanks, was just reading that in the other thread.

Any ND OL commits high on ohio before committing the first time? Bivin maybe?

They targeted Bivin, but he was pretty strongly committed to ND, there wasn't much question. I doubt OSU would be able to pull any of that group.

I'm sure they'll try their hardest. If something doesn't come out Friday or Saturday I expect to lose a few kids.

  • If Meyer lands any ND recruits, then he will have hit the recruiting jackpot consecutive years.

  • I've now realized the key to Michigan's OL recruiting: Zingerman's. I was up in Ann Arbor for the last week, probably gained 5 lbs from Zingerman's alone. Too good, too good.
