Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • The only other offer I am seeing is Indiana. Is that true?

In addition to Ohio State, Jones also had scholarship offers from Illinois and Indiana and was drawing interest from many others including Michigan State, Iowa, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Louisville.

4*, 7th ranked OG is scraps? lol. David Dawson is the 6th ranked OG on 247 & Rivals for 2013, is he also scraps? You're being silly.

The quality of a position varies from year to year. Surely you know this, right?

Also, Dawson is highly ranked as we approach NSD. On the other hand, it's still very early for the 2014 rankings. Jones is more likely to move down than he is to move up. Just a thought.

Even if Jones moves down (247 has him ranked as the 7th OG, their composite ranking is #2 overall OG), he's not scraps. Mitch is pretty obviously just trolling, which is okay, it's a Michigan board so naturally there's going to be an anti-OSU bias (I'd be disturbed if there wasn't). The same way OSU fans who were like "We didn't want Dawson anyway!" (yeah right) were trolling haha.

There's a long way to go so far as telling just how good Jones is/will be, but he's not scraps lol. Michigan's highest ranked OL from 2013 are Kyle Bosch, Chris Fox and David Dawson at 94. Marcelys Jones is a 94.

According to how you guys rank players UM gets he must be scraps because he has an offer from you and then essentially nobody so he must suck. Isn't that the way it works over at BN? In all seriousness, I have thought for awhile you guys would get some quality Oline in 2014. He's a pipeline kid so no surprise here.

Haha I agree. That's what I meant by my anti-OSU/pro-OSU trolling comment (it's not the bad type of trolling, more traditional OSU/Mich rubbing it in).

According to OSU fans, every Michigan player is scraps, and according to Michigan fans, every OSU player is scraps. Personally I really like Jones, I watched a few of his games at Glenville and he is (imo) the big, mauling OG prototype you want -- and 247 seems to agree. To me the issue isn't whether Jones will be good (I think he'll be great), the issue is whether Urban can manage to land any additional OL outside of Ohio, which he hasn't to this point.

I agree with ya, I think he will get a couple but if I was him I would get an offer out to that Lancaster kid Trout I believe? He seems legit and a sure bet for you guys unless urban tries to play the we will late until later. With in state kids sometimes that will work sometimes it doesn't (Conley, McCray)

Couldn't agree with you more. My assumption is that OSU is waiting on a lot of these guys because they want to make sure they're offering someone who is legit/getting the best out of their limited scholarships, but it burns you as often as it works out for you. Especially when you hear almost every new coach in the B1G laying out their plan of action as "we're going to recruit Ohio hard" haha.

It's like the beautiful girlfriend. If you aren't paying her the attention she deserves, she's going to go elsewhere and I don't blame her a bit. Drew Barker is a good example in 2014, Kentuckian but long-time OSU lean. Still hasn't gotten the offer because staff is putting their chips on Deshaun Watson or Jarrod Heard flipping (not likely). Now that Barker's getting SEC offers (USC, Tenn, UK) I wouldn't blame him a bit if he commits elsewhere before the staff gets off their tail and offers him. I'd want to go somewhere I was immediately accepted/wanted. He's done several interviews lately explaining his frustration that OSU still hasn't offered.

Stop being pejorative to this kid, the bucknuts and to Urbie....their 2014 OL haul is already better then the 2013 OL haul

I was suprised by the no offer to trout with our obvious need for pure tackles. I know someone who has watched some of their games (not a scout or a talent evaluator just a regular dude) and he said its a classic looks like Tarzan plays like Jane scenario. Said he is athletic, in shape, decent feet and great measurables but looks wildly mediocre in games. I think he will get an offer if we strike out again but his comments were very discouraging.

Very discouraging indeed. B1G OLs need a nasty streak to really succeed. One of the reasons I love Kalis so much is because he's got that mean streak - he doesn't just want to get in the way of a defender, he wants to punish the defender for daring to step onto his field. I see the same thing in Kyle Bosch and David Dawson this year, and that extra intensity is something that you really want to see in a high school kid.

  • yea, and offensive line is a position where a good O line coach can go a LONG way but you cant cant teach that mean streak.

  • Bump. OL Jackson Keeler, Urban's latest offer, just said that his flirtation with other schools is over, and he's back solidly committed to Wisconsin. Chalk up another strike-out for the supposed master of flipping commits.

    lol

At this point, I don't even know if that'd be enough. Urban Meyer might have to start adopting kids to build an OL.
