Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • SonnyD said...

You just lost all your credibility. Haha!

Yeah, JT and Bollman were KNOWN for coaching and pumping out great lineman. Wow! And the things Warriner has done with this Oline are astronomical from how Bollman left them. It's been very well documented by the media and Meyer himself. Clueless apparently when it comes to tOSU you are

Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground..

You don't need to pump out great offensive linemen to be a good coach. I can't remember watching an OSU line struggle until last season, when Tressel was gone.

Hell no! But it is waaaaaaay better than expected and Warriner is doing an EXCELLENT job. Awards at the end of the year type job thus far

Do you think your coaches are going to say that Decker is bad? You usually can tell how they will play out, as long as they have a consistent work ethic. Every player has a ceiling, it's up to the coaches to help them reach that ceiling and their work ethic dictates whether they have the opportunity to reach it. I'm not saying the kids I listed don't have the work ethic, but I don't see a high ceiling for any of them.

Dodson is the only one I could see become a solid contributor.

Oline, moreso than any other position, can do well/overachieve with less talent. The Brew Crew were all world but they had an incompetent oline coach. To the point when they were at the senior bowl coaches were ripping them about how poorly they were coached.

Warriner is making a converted TE into a very solid tackle and stepping up everybody else's talent on the line as well. I have absolutely no worries when it comes to Oline. The recruits we land will be more than serviceable. Book it

Well you need to watch more bc they were horrible JT's entire tenure basically. Bollman was AWFUL! Any tOSU fan that knows anything will tell you that

You're talking a lot of shit for almost losing all of your games except for Miami (OH) and Nebraska.

I'm not talking shit...just the opposite...I don't see any way possible we can beat you guys....You're entire offensive line 3 deep sound like they will be starting in the NFL...and none of ours can block a box of tissue...

I believe, and it's just my opinion, that our line is playing better in their first year together than any line we've had in the last 10 years...but still probably not good enough to move any of your DL...but I can dream can't I?

actually, just about every week in press conference, Urban has called out players that he is expecting more out of...that aren't producing to where the team needs them to....so, yeah, if Decker was a disappointment, Urban would have no problem expressing that....his PC's are so much better than Tressel's "Senator Speak"...

You guys haven't beaten or played anybody yet this year. It's not even fair to compare what you have this year to past teams. Up to this point your schedule has been garbage and those teams have gave you all you could handle. EXCELLENT? against who? Alabama Birmingham?

It's going to be really funny if you lose to 1 of those nobodies Nebraska, Mich St or both. Ill give you Alabama but quit acting like ND, with no QB, is some elite team.

the difference is that brax is actually doing it (performing extremely well and is 6-0 in div.1 football),

shane is still in high school...the kid is great, i will give him that, but we wont know for sure how good until he plays for um which could be 2 yrs from now...

    Ok, and?

I've seen way more Ohio State fans that are proclaiming that Braxton is the GOAT than Michigan fans are that proclaiming Morris to be an Heisman winner.

Ohio State fans were all to quick to point out Denard got most of his stats playing scrubs (nevermind the mob-like mentality over on BNs that running QBs couldn't last in the B1G (funny how that's change, eh?)), yet what "elite" teams has Braxton done amazing against?

i like denard and think he's a great runner, but running qb's do have a greater risk of getting hurt (braxton included)...so far (fingers crossed) neither has sustained a season or career ending injury (altho brax has been close a few times already)...

denard has only 7-8 games left before he leaves and has dodged the big bullet, braxton has 21/2 yrs and i will be the first to say he will get hurt if he runs 20 plus times per game for that time...

it's a double edged sword, their legs are what win us the games, but they take a lot of hits getting there...

we have not beat any elite teams, we wont know for sure until the season ends how good/bad msu, cal, nebraska etc are because the conf. play just started...we can only play the schedule ahead of us, cal was very good when we scheduled them a few yrs ago...

have we had some close games? for sure, and we will have more, but getting a w is what really matters...i dont believe in good losses or bad wins...

i remember our n/c season run, we had something like 6 games won by less then a td (including a last second td against purdue)...

12-0 is not that unlikely anymore (w's against 2 of our 5 toughest games already) and "should" be favored against psu, um and whisky...that would not be a bad start for the urban meyer era!

I don't know about good losses but i definetly believe in bad wins. For example, MSU has had a couple of bad wins. The Eastern Michigan and Indiana wins were bad wins. Those games showed me that MSU is not a good team.

    They were???

    2007 7-6
    2008 9-4
    2009 8-5
    2010 5-7
    2011 7-6

The best they finished was 4th in their conference through that time. "Very good" is a stretch my friend.

OSU will win 10 or 11 games this year, just like we did in year one under Brady Hoke. The real question is whether you will make any coaching changes on the defensive side of the ball after the season is over. Your defense took a minor step backward last year. Some of that probably had to do with the loss of the Vest, but IMO much of it was simply the fact your offense was awful the first half of the season due to having all your best offensive players suspended and having a true freshman QB. That put extra pressure on your D (and made it look worse statistically than it really was). But this year, for whatever reason, your defense has taken a further giant step backward. Urbie won at Florida with talented offensive skill players AND an excellent defense. He would not have won without both. And when he accepted the job in Columbus, the first person he should have retained was Jim Heacock. Why he didn't is anyone's guess, but the triumvirate of Fickell/Withers/Vrabel is not getting the job done. Does Urbie have the balls to admit he made a mistake and fire/replace some or all of them? We will see. But my prediction is that if all three come back to OSU as coaches next season, OSU will continue to struggle on D.

lol You have done it now MrWoodson. Brutus was swearing up and down that Ohio State's Defense was head and shoulders above Michigan's just a couple weeks ago.

Brutus needs to brush up on his math. Ohio State's defense is barely better than NW's.

    B10 Teams - Total Defense
    8. Michigan State (272.3 ypg)
    19. Michigan (311.8 ypg)
    21. Iowa (315.0 ypg)
    23. Minnesota (320.8 ypg)
    28 Wisconsin (338.0 ypg)
    32. Penn State (349.2 ypg)
    37. Illinois (351.3 ypg)
    48. Purdue (365.4 ypg)
    49. Nebraska (367.0 ypg)
    60. Ohio State (386.5 ypg)
    66. Northwestern (392.2 ypg)
    94. Indiana (444.0 ypg)

I have posted a few times over here and have always had good conversations, probably because I only get into the civil parts of the threads with people who seemingly want to have actual football conversation. This is an outstanding post and point very well taken. Last year I thought was the anomaly, with everything going on and the loss of Rolle, Homan, Checkwa, and others I was certainly willing to give a pass to a group that played with a lot of heart, but fell short of expectations. Even early this year I was willing to give a handful of games to allow the new philosophy to kick in. I really thought after the MSU game that the group had turned the corner and after last week it is clear that isn't the case. Tackling is still an issue, we still have communication issues in the back half and these are things that should have been corrected by now. I agree with you that Urban is going to have a few tough decisions to make after the season if this group doesn't make marked improvement over the rest of the year. The thing is I see no reason to believe it will happen. This group on paper probably is the most talented defensive unit in the B1G but are performing like Indiana. Next year I believe the talent on the field will be there on both sides of the ball to make a run at a conference and national title, the question for me is, other than Urban will the talent be on the sidelines for such a run?

If your a Buckeye Fan, I'll jump off the leveque tower in downtown Columbus! YOU ARE EMBARRASSING! You don’t see any way we will beat Michigan?? That made me laugh out loud. I’m not saying we will beat Michigan, but there is a damn good chance we could. I’m not going to get into why I think we have a great shot at a W because OSU and Michigan fans arguing about which team is better is like pissing in the wind. I’ll let the coaches and players decide who is better. But you are a disgrace if I have ever saw one if you are who you say you are, a true Buckeye fan. I can’t believe you Michigan fans let this dumbass post hear, but I’m glad he is here and I haven’t seen him on Bucknuts. What an embarrassment. You guys would think the same if a Michigan fan said he doesn’t see any way Michigan can beat OSU this year. What a joke. Best of luck to you guys and here’s to hoping you are 9-2 rolling into Columbus and we are 11-0. I miss the good old ranked games! Go Bucks!

yes, and you are correct willy, however, in the big scheme of things after the regular season and into the bowls those bad wins are forgotten (mostly)

i posted this earlier, but the yr the bucks won the n/c we had MANY ugly wins and thru the yrs we have almost lost to navy, cincy, marshall, ohio u etc...not to mention some big ten teams we shoulda beat easily, like illinois and purdue...

if msu is to run the table from here and win the rose those close games to em and indy wont mean anything...

same with um's close one to air force, win the rose and nobody will even remember that game

To me there is a difference between a team like Michigan maybe not playing as well as they could of against Air Force and a team like MSU looking like crap all year and barely beating Eastern and Indiana. Those games show me that MSU really isn't that good this year. I would be shocked if MSU ran the table and made the Rose Bowl.
