Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • ItsMerMAN said...

enlighten me with the facts then...just facts, not your personal opinion. The facts that show Warrnier failed as a O-line coach. What 2 star tackle are "we" saying is so good?

    Good luck with that

ND failed to convert 3rd and 1's the whole second half against Michigan. On top of that plenty of your posters are using the excuse that oline are hard to predict because you missed on all of your top targets. The ones that you will get will be scraps. But keep being a blind homer and say they'll be stars.

  • So it went from the best players in the nation teaming up to join each other for a college takeover NWO style.... and it has fallen all the way down to recruits don't matter when it comes to offensive lineman.

I guess the coach can turn any big fat kid into an All-American, it has nothing to do w/ the individuals he recruits to come there (that decided to go else^^where).

How many underclassmen start at Wisconsin? Wisconsin produces a good oline every year due to the continuous depth they built for years and years. Most of their O'Line never see the field for more than 2 years. That is a really bad example.

Valid statement but can you give the coaching just a LITTLE bit of credit? Since the majority of their recruits are 3* and all. And it's not like we're stuck with horrible OL talent. Last year and years before were solid classes. 1 senior on the line this year in Fragel(if he starts). 1 good one thus far this year and its JUNE. Emphasis on JUNE

And check the list of everyone you missed on. Keep spinning it but the guys you are recruiting now aren't the coaches 1st or 2nd choices, they're guys the coaches never planned on going after. Your denial is entertaining though.

Meyer will get good Olineman come February. Not worried in least bit. Congrats on your Oline haul though. Sincerely

How should I know I don't follow your team. Just going by who you offered, haven't landed, and who you offered at your last camp, to say they aren't scraps would be a joke. But your a delusional buckeye who probably thinks you will get Tunsil, oh wait star ratings for olineman don't matter duh.

    MichaelHardenII

  • I certainly don't think Ohio is in good shape at this point with their oline recruiting but I think it is safe to say it is still early for them though. Yes they missed on all the highly rated prospects but there is still a senior season to be played for the class of 13 kids. We all know that there are a couple of kids that are underrated at this point and there will be a couple of decommits they can jump on. So I am sure they will end up putting together a respectable oline class once all is said and done. I am just glad Michigan is not in that position. Ultimately its playing with fire if you have to constantly rely on late bloomers and decommits for your oline its too important of a position imo.

How good was Urban at recruiting oline at Florida?

Very good work. Well thought out and i agree. No idea how his FLA recruiting was position to position. Congrats on your Oline class

Dorian Johnson - OT ,4*, but his final two are Pitt and PSU, he's not leaving the state.
Khaliel Rodgers - OG, 3*, just cancelled a visit to OSU, won't be camping anymore.
    Kyle Meadows - OT, 3*.
    Lovell Peterson - C, 3*.
    Tristan Nickelson - OT, 2*.

Those are the guys you have offers out to. As to the ones who don't have offers but have been recruited a bit recently:

    Matt Miller - OG, 3*.
Sam Coverdale - OT, 3*, just committed to Northwestern.

So, basically, yeah. Scraps. FFS, OSU has an offer out to a 2-star OT. You can't tell me that they wouldn't have rather had Pocic. Scraps all the way.

    CMXI

  • Of course we wanted Pocic, no one would argue that.
Johnson is in Columbus this weekend, a long shot yes but at least we get to make a pitch.
Rodgers said he will try and reschedule a trip to Columbus, and may push his announcement back to do so. (again we'll see)
Peterson I like, be he isnt a OT.
I am glad that stars make players though, our O-line should be fantastic this year then..I know at least 4 of them were 4* kids all inside the top 200 nationally and 2 of them inside the top 60 I think...

    ItsMerMAN

  • I am not sure you guys know this but we are only going for 2 maybe 3 OL recruits this year, we have the top tackle in Ohio in Lisle, and have 1 or 2 more slots, sounds like we are planning to take a P or a OL for that 3rd slot. We aren't recruiting 5 OL kids this year like you. Do you want a 5 * kid to fill that slot... of course. Does it make or break our class... no, playmakers are our need this year not depth at OL. I would say if we don't get another playmaker it will hurt our class. Our scheme is built on playmakers and getting them the ball in open space, your scheme is pro-style, line up and punch the other team in the mouth the old fashioned way. Both have seen a lot of success recently, you recruited very well this year to fit your system I think.

That said I think you brought in a low 3* OL last year right? Your honest thoughts on that? Do you consider that scraps?

  • I don't get these pissing matches.

Ohio has missed on a lot of their offensive lineman targets and are likely going to have a disappointing OL haul this recruiting cycle.

Ratings aren't an end-all. Shrewd recruiting and good development can make contributers out of 2* recruits. One disappointing OL recruiting class does not equate to bad on field performance.

If you disagree with either of these you are wrong. If you think that you can make stronger predictions than these (OSU is going to have a bad offensive line in three years, for example), you are reaching according to your own bias.

    End of story.

I believe you are referring to Braden, 6'7" 300 lbs. He had early offers from MSU and Wisc but committed to us very early which likely prevented further offers. It's not the star status that makes a kid "scraps" its the sentiment that you are getting the last of the pickings. Still all relative though imo.

None of them were low 3*, I think all of them may have had a 4* rating from one site or another.

That said, I get the point. We have had guys offered scholarships that were very under the radar (Drake Johnson, Khalid Hill, Jeremy Clark, Willie Henry, Sione Houma) that I certainly have no problem with.

I would also point out that Michigan handled their OL recruiting with much the same attitude you have, and it didn't work out well at all. (I just now thought of Patrick Omameh who was actually a 2* that will be a third year starter this year) I would not recommend taking less than four offensive lineman in any year, as two poor OL recruiting classes in a row can really put a team in a bad place.

  • The fact these folks think I'm serious about star ratings is hilarious. My point multiple times as stated by others was these are plan C and D guys. Sonny D get some reading comprehension.

And be sure to check your site. Star ratings are serious there.

#OhioState offers Detroit Cass Tech OT Dennis Finley

    Hmmmm....interesting move.

    Scooter305

  • Apparently, Finley had a good camp showing. But if Meyer wanted an in to Cass Tech, this is the only guy he can get, because he won't get an offer from Michigan.
