Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

A FYI, you didn't double post.

Sometimes a second post will show up and then disappear shortly after. But when you edit one, you edit both.

Even if he wasn't projected to start (which I don't think he was) their depth is already miserable. They've got multiple converted guys on the 2-deep already - TE Reid Fragel is starting at LT, and they converted DT Darryl Baldwin too for some depth. At this rate, they'd almost be better off getting one of those amazing DLs they keep recruiting to play two ways.

Any hits to their depth are just going to be exacerbated by this anemic class. Even if they do manage to get a full slate of OLs, the talent is going to be mighty thin at this point.

True but I believe their interior depth is much better than their tackle depth.

He fell to third on the depth chart behind Linsley and Little Boren in spring ball. Word was he was having trouble adding weight so rather than being buried on the depth chart he decided to leave. It was a little disappointing considering he was good prospect when he came in.

Thanks for clearing it up for me!! I wasn't sure where he was on the depth chart.

It's cool. When spring ball started I figured he would be the starter so I was a bit shocked when this broke. From all reports he is a great kid from a great family and there was never a hint of a bad thing said about him by the staff or otherwise. They talked about moving him to guard and said he was busting his butt in the offseason workouts but just couldn't put on any weight. Considering our OL situation I was really shocked to hear but I hope he does well wherever he ends up because he's a class act.

  • CUM is a very, very good recruiter. We saw him in the SEC. He knows the pieces he needs to build a winner for his style of play and he gets them. He may be satisfied with what he sees in what is already there and is emphasizing other areas of his needs.............do not count him short....he can recruit.....he will probably be in front of Michigan by year end.

I'll tell you this much, if he wants to leapfrog Michigan, he won't be doing it on the strength of his OL recruits.

  • CMXI●........again, that may not be his emphasis this year........I have never figured him out.........but his is good/dangerous.....that much is for sure.

  • Just checked Ohio State's OL and they show 15 on their roster, several over 300lbs. Urban may feel comfortable with them and sees other areas of need.

So they have some guys that eat a lot and gained 300lbs. I don't think that equates to depth.

Everyone knows he's made plenty of offers and ended up with nothing. Everyone knows he's failed here on OL.

The answer to this post is "yes." End of post and discussion.

Well hell, I just recruited next year's cast of The Biggest Loser to play at Michigan, clearly I'll have an amazing OL!

Weight doesn't equate to talent. Ohio State is bereft of talent on the OL to the point where their choices at LT are a converted TE or a true freshman - that's not a position any top CFB team ever wants to be in.

Who is Urban going to land that will propel OSU above Michigan in the recruiting rankings?

Not sure where this came from but it is false. LT will be Jack Mewhort who was a highly rated OL coming in and has started at several positions on the OL. The OL will not be the strength of the team and certainly we haven't done as well as you guys in OL recruiting, but the depth is not nearly as bad as you all seem to think and is probably better now than it has been over the last few years. We have a pretty good 2 deep with not a lot behind that.

Well, the 2 deep that was initially released had Reid Fragel starting at LT, and a lot of people have been talking about Taylor Decker potentially outperforming him. I didn't know Mewhort was in the mix, but it also remains to be seen if he'll be able to start the season.

no reid freigal and decker are expected to play at RT not LT

Ahhh, my fault, you're right, I mixed up which tackle spot was in question. Still, my point stands - starting either a converted TE or a true freshman at one of the tackles isn't exactly an ideal situation for a top team.

Is Mewhort in the circle of trust?

I guess we'll find out when/if he's punished for the arrest, but if he's projected to be their starting LT, I can't imagine the starting LT and TE will be left out of the circle.
