It was dumb to change the fundamental philosophies of what made OSU such a traditional power. Yeah, let's run the read option spread because this whole power-I thing really hasn't been working out for us... derp.
I'm sure Woody is somewhere jumping for joy.
Ohio fans will rue the day they passed up on Dantonio.

It's funny, ohio people have been leaning on how dominant their DL will be, despite the fact we counter with some 4/5 star OL.
I wonder how they will counter when our DL takes on their mac level OL. I predict that Brion'te will have to block more often than run during his career in ohio.

Well the fact that Lloyd Carr's offense consisted of, run up the middle, run to the left, run to the right, and a few passes here and there, I'm surprised more teams couldn't stop the offense. Defense does not always trump offense, and it's not like Michigan's defense is bad, held your running game down pretty well last year.

What has made OSU successful has been an elite defense and I don't think Urban is trying to change any of that. OSU's offense was only ranked in the top-30 once in Tressel's tenure and that was during Troy Smith's senior year.
Yet to be seen if this approach will be successful, but your post is way off base.

I never made any comment about UM's defense. Of course, a great defense doesn't ALWAYS trump a great offense - there are exceptions to every rule. But this has been a long-standing "rule of thumb" in football. Look at what happens any time Oregon faces a real defense. Heck, look closer to home ... look at what happened every time RichRod's offense ran in to a good defense.
I just think it is silly to think that a great DL will automatically be nullified by a great OL. Now, UM DL vs OSU's OL is a different story. You get the best of both worlds in that match-up. It's no wonder Urban will keep recruiting mobile QB's. It's becoming a survival technique.

I see you still avoided answering where all these player maker recruits are coming from... convenient.
And it never occurred to you that a grind it out ball control offense has a direct effect on defensive success? The fewer times your opponent possesses the football the less they can score. You obviously don't know Tressel ball 101.
Not to mention practicing day in and day out against smash mouth football helps to toughen up a defense. Another of Tressel's mantra's
Since according to you Ohio tradition only started with Tressel and defense. Griffin and George might disagree, but I digress.
I mean those Tressel years must of been real tough on you nuts. My condolences.
But clearly I am off base, so what do I know... maybe I should take back the intelligent poster remark, no?

All excellent points. I definitely understand Tressel-ball and what impact it can have on a defense. And I definitely know what OSU's history was built on. Again, I am not saying I know Urban's approach is going to be successful, but it sure worked at Florida and I'm willing to give it a shot at OSU. If he can maintain the great defense at OSU and bring in a little bit better offense (if you read any of his press, he still plans to incorporate I-formation elements; whether you believe it or not is a different story) I think it could be a good marriage. All yet to be seen though.
Sorry, about not responding earlier about playmakers - I honestly thought you were joking. Marshall is a 5-star - something UM doesn't have, even with their great OL haul. Baugh is getting rave reviews and is a high 4-star - I guess depending on which site he is equal, better or slightly behind Butt, but if you guys are counting him as elite, then I can certainly count Baugh. And they have the top dual threat QB commit in the nation. Not to mention, are still in on a few elites like Quick (top 3) and Foster (top 3) at WR and Green at RB (top 2).

Between their O-Line and ours there is no comparison. Michigan: Kalis, Magnuson, Kugler, LTT, Fox, Bosch, Dawson, Braden Ohio: Lisle, Decker, Dodson I do find it interesting that each school gets a bunch of 4/5 star recruits at a certain position where the other has trouble. Michigan: O-Line, Linebacker Ohio: Defensive line

So absolutely no clue on how accurate this is, but there is a post on Bucknuts that Dorian Johnson committed to WVU. I can't see anything anywhere to confirm this though, so I have a feeling it is someone trolling their fanbase with the Pocic news today.

Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?
