A zone blocking scheme also does not require elite OL to be effective. A pro scheme requires them and UM is loading up. OSU's scheme relies on playmakers and they are loading up. It is yet to be seen who will be more effective, but clearly they are recruiting to fit the scheme.
Would OSU love elite lineman? Of course, but they aren't getting them yet nor are they needed to have an effective offense in that system. Would UM love elite playmakers? Of course, but they aren't getting them yet either.

Right.... who needs lineman in a run first spread. Sound logic. Why even waste scholarships on them? Urb can just throw some preferred walkons out there and scheme circles around the BIG.
And where are all these playmakers you speak of? I see Marshall and.... (fill in the blank) because I'm drawing one? In the meantime Michigan will keep stock piling those useless linemen in abundance. Good comparison though. Totally see your point...

Agree to some extent. But OSU is starting to see one of the major drawbacks of a run-based spread offense ... many elite players at certain positions are reluctant to play in such a system. Pro-style QB, OL, WR, every down RB. It will be interesting to see if Urbie can even keep top Ohio talent at those positions from leaving the state. Elite prospects want a path to the NFL and blocking for a running QB generally is not what they have in mind when picking a school. And pulling OOS kids who did not grow up diehard Buckeyes is even tougher. Get used to a lot of undersized OL, WRs and RBs.

Morris QB elite, Darboh solid 4 star WR. Funchess and Butt are playmakers. Nortfleet is a high four star playmaker. Deveon Smith is a playmaker. Michigan will be fine at the playmaker spots. I am not so sure OSU will be fine on the OL. And yes you do need good OL to play in the big ten. The better defenses will expose a weak OL.

I'll give you Morris. The rest are good/great, but I don't consider them elite. We can agree to disagree though. But OSU is brigning in good/great OL, just not ELITE like you guys are (Lisle, Decker, O'Conner, Dodson). It's not like OSU isn't addressing a huge problem, they just aren't doing it as successfully as UM. I would say same for UM at playmaker. Those guys are good/great, but I don't think they have pulled in a "can't miss" guy like most think Marshall will be.

Jake Butt will be an elite TE. He is underranked on 247 because they initially ranked him as a DE. He is ranked much higher on Scout, Rivals and ESPN (equal to or higher than Baugh). He has great size, good hands and good speed.
Darboh also has tons of potential. Great height/size and great hands. Will he be elite? Too early to tell. But he will almost certainly be a solid playmaker. Chesson is similar, albeit faster. And Deveon Smith will be a very good every down RB. UM is signing plenty of playmakers, at least as many as OSU.

Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?
