Will Meyer be left with scraps at OL?

  • maize&blue21 said...

Urban will not be flipping recruits like he did last year.

I agree for the most part. Flipping last year was a phenomenon of his hiring late in the recruiting cycle and that there were some Ohio kids that really wanted to go to tOSU but committed elsewhere before they knew who the coach would be for the '12 season.

The ONLY silver lining of the bowl ban is that you will see a December where the Buckeye staff can put in a lot more time on the recruiting trail in December than the bowl bound teams. So, providing the Buckeyes have a season that shows promise for future years, I think you will see some big recruits commit in the December/January time frame. I don't think this will impact Michigan recruiting as much as some other schools, you guys seem to get the lions share or your commits early in the cycle.

Urban wants linemen? I couldn't tell by his OL recruiting, he has barely landed any of the prospects he has targeted.

He did OK last year. It's still early for '13 commits. You're comment is spot on to where the previous staff's priorities were though. Coach Meyer puts a much higher priority on OL. I would d like to have a couple more by now, but the summer camp circuit and kids senior season always impact the top rated recruit ratings. Stars will be added and lost, we'll probably end up OK by the end.

Both tOSU and Michigan will be in the top 5 when all is said and done. It's good for the rivalry and the B1G. If either of us are going back to the national title, it helps both of us to have beaten a top ranked team in the Game.

Don't agree with your first sentence. Michigan just got him on campus first. Read he's always been ND, but who knows. Montelus will be getting a nice bump according to JC. Sounds like Elmer will drop some more. McGovern and Montelus are both ranked way to low, IMO. Montelus is also young for his class. I think it's safe to say that heading into their SR years UM will have the top OL class followed by ND. I think we have a few OL that make huge gains after their SR year.

ND OL haul behind michigan's? have you seen Texas n ALA offensive line haul?

2 of Texas' "OL commits" are slated for the DL though... Robinson and Raulerson will prob start out on the defensive side

Other than Pocic, which big names are left on OSU's board that are not committed?

Check the OP. I've been keeping it updated.

I am guessing Grey and Johnson will be off their wishlist soon as well.... Latham seems like a better DT prospect at this point and does nothing to help their bookends... Decker and Dodson are 2 very good players and Lisle looks like he may have the length to play at the OT spot as well... The talent in the midwest this year makes it unacceptable to be shutout though

Didn't Urban get to recruit during bowl season last year while Fickell still ran the team? So he'll be able to do that 2 years in a row, I guess that's a good thing.

These are teenage kids, I expect players around the country to flip at some point... but to rely on that is not a very safe bet.

I have and I'd rank them both behind Michigan and ND, using this site and others. The OG that ND just added is ranked much higher on other sites. Scout has him as the #2 OG in the country right behind Kugler.

Michigan and ND have done an amazing job with their OL recruits this year.

I think they are waiting on pocic's decision before they take any more tackles. Lazard verballed to wvu, but imo that commitments is more of a placeholder than anything else. If meyer calls him with a commitable offer I bet he jumps ship asap

  • First off I want to say congratulations on your great o-line haul so far! That is a serious gesture.

As a Buckeye fan I dont honestly really know what Urban is trying to do with the o-line. I guess I dont question it because of his credentials as a coach.

I dont believe in the whole scraps scenario. If they were scraps big time programs wouldnt offer the kids. Pretty simple there. Yes it does sting when TTUN snags these kids up, but I realize not everybody from Ohio is born a Buckeye. Hoke is from Ohio and knows the rich history of football in Ohio so it really isnt a suprise to me at least with how well he is doing recruiting.

I also feel the your o-line coach Funk is very underated with his ability to coach.

Yes it is possible Meyers spread might not work in the B10, but to honestly compare his spread to RichRods is kinda bogus.

Here is to a great season for you guys, except the 24th of November in the Shoe!

    cheers

At this point, I'm seriously worried about losing Funk real soon, that would definitely hurt on the field and on the recruiting trail. Jerry Montgomery also seems like a rising star, too. I wouldn't expect less for the DL coach under Brady Hoke and Greg Mattison.

I don't think there is much to the claim that Meyer's spread wouldn't work. It seems more similar to spread offenses that are already being used to good effect in the conference. Plus, RichRod's spread worked well enough, and he didn't just have mismatched talent, he had a glaring lack of talent at some spots on the roster. That's not true at OSU, so I expect Urban Meyer to have some success his first season there.

With that said, I can't in all honesty wish OSU well.

Ruh roh ... the same Ethan Pocic who is a lock to OSU? I think Urbie's acid reflux might be coming back.

I just simply love college football! Its one thing to debate, but another to simply hate.

I guess growing up in a family divided of tOSU and TTUN, both sides grew to respect eachothers program and history!

Lets face it tOSU and TTUN are and always will be the B10!

    What's your guess?

    What's your guess?

I think LSU. Of all the elite Midwest OL, it always seemed like Pocic expressed the most interest in playing in the SEC - even when we were recruiting him hard, there was always talk that he wanted to check out the South. I just can't see him being happy in a spread offense - the kid is elite, and I'm sure he wants to go somewhere that'll allow him to bulk up and play at least some pro-style so he can prepare for the NFL.

I guess if they get Pocic, that would make it a lot better. But if they miss on him, it is going to get ugly.
