Which 2013 commitment has the highest ceiling?

  • Just wondered which player coming in this class is the guy who has the highest overall upside of anyone in your opinion, at least at this point. Give your reasoning.

    Steve Lorenz

  • I'd say two: stribling and butt

Stribling is due to his size and athletic ability. With some weight and good coaching he could be a Seahawks esque corner

Butt, like Funchess, is a wideout in a TE body. He could be the Hernandez to funchess's gronk

What exactly do you mean by upside? College production? Draft position? Overall career?

Players playing for Michigan, so what they'll do for Michigan.

    Steve Lorenz

  • I think Shane. He had a rough senior year, but has all the tools to be great.

Well, this team has a half dozen guys who could end up as the best player in the nation at their position, just for the simple fact that they have prototypical physical attributes:

    1. S. Morris
    2. D. Thomas
    3. T. Charlton
    4. LTT
    5. K. Bosch
    6. P. Kugler

That probably leaves a couple out, even.

My pick, however, is Jourdan Lewis.

He's already a natural playmaker with fantastic ball skills. He also seems to have the right sort of attitude to play the position. Once his technique is coached up, he could be a lockdown corner with elite ballhawking and return skills.

Plus, I think he would be the best receiver of the last two classes if he was on the other side of the ball. I doubt he has a future getting a few snaps out of the slot, but he could do it.

  • I'm gonna say LTT. He is incredibly raw, but has all the physical capabilities. You can tell that he has what it takes to be the next great Michigan LT as long as he learns technique.

  • My choice would be Taco Charlton. He's got the body and the athleticism down. His frame will be able to add weight to it fairly easily. If he can adopt that tenacity that Mattison's defensive lines have had, and learn better technique, he could be a terror on the edge. Can't teach 6'6" with long arms like that.

I'm not 100%, so I'm going to hedge a little bit:

    1a. LTT
    1b. Shane
    2. Taco
    3. Dymonte
    4. JD Lewis
    5. Stribling

  • It's gotta be Shane, Dymonte or Kyle Bosch. If Shane learns to make the proper reads quickly and see the whole field the way he sees one side of it he could be an early first round draft pick with his arm strength and build. Dymonte and Bosch both have similar prototypical builds for their respective positions and both have high draft potential.

I want to make it known that Steve Lorenz (Tremendous) is the reason my trial month became a permanent membership. Smart move 247.

Shane has the highest upside imo. He's got leadership ability, arm strength and a great work ethic. The frightening thing about him is if he doesn't doesn't develop good touch and reading ability he also may have the greatest downside and be the biggest disappointment. Steve, the fact that you can ask this question is a testimony to the quanity and diversity of talent in the 2013 class. DG might move to the top of my list though. I don't think he has a downside at all barring injury.

The only worry I would have with DG is his weight, but the fact that he got down to where he is now from where he was at the start of his junior year is impressive. For those of you who don't know, he ballooned to 270-ish, and his coaches gave him an ultimatum to lose weight or not play football at Hermitage. I was impressed with his work ethic though, he got all the way back down to a chiseled 220, so I'm not too worried about the weight, he's proven that he has the desire and ability to keep it under control.

He didn't balloon. He was just a big kid. He came into high school at 260+

He changed his diet, and worked like a mad man, because he wanted to play RB.

Ah, my bad, I thought he blew up, thanks for the accurate info. You do point to the most important thing though, clearly he has the work ethic to keep his weight under control.

Yeah... he's a monster in the weight room from what I've heard. As is Deveon.

I'm so excited about having punishing RBs. No more Vincent Smith runs up the middle.

lol Did you see the little feature on him at the UA game? He wakes up around 5, runs a few miles, works out, and doesn't eat anything unhealthy.

I think the Michigan strength coaches are going to have a field day when they get their hands on him.

  • I'd say Dymonte and Taco. You can teach a lot of stuff, but you can't teach frame and athleticism.

I'd also throw Poggi and Hurst out there. NTs are really hard to project, but those two look like they could be world-beaters.

I think of Poggi as more of a high floor, medium ceiling kind of guy. Already has good technique from what I've read and should be ready to play with that regard, but needs to add a little weight.

  • Perhaps I'm deranged but even with DG in the mix I love Deveons style of pounding the ball. He's probably the recruit I am most excited about. As far as ceiling, I really think its either Poggi or Taco. Taco has the freakish athletic ability and a frame to hold probably another 30-40 pounds, once he learns some technique he could be our Peppers/Kearse IMO. Poggi might not ave the same level of athleticism but he has more than enough and obviously knows the game. He has the look of a dominant SEC DL to me. Plus, I love coaches kids. After those two it's a toss up between Gedeon and LTT. To me, Gedeon is criminally underrated and I really believe he is going to be a monster. LTT has the highest bust potential in the class but has every tool you could think of plus a great attitude and work ethic.

Damn I love this class (and the last one). My favorite part is that most of these guys are very versatile, especially the DL, and very athletic. I have full confidence our coaches will be able to get maximum production out of every single one of them.

That is my one concern with Poggi. How much good weight can he add without losing his quickness. If he can get to the 290s and still remain quick he will be a monster of a 3 tech/SDE

Exactly. Looking at him though, I don't know what he can/can't put on.
