What are you looking to see in Saturday's game?

  • Personally, I think the number one key to a game like this is that everyone is healthy when the clock hits 0:00. No sugar-coating this one - UMass isn't a good team. I think the ideal situation would be to put it out of reach early while staying very vanilla on both sides of the ball, and get some younger guys some game experience. Notre Dame has a 60 minute battle on its hands Saturday night, so Michigan has a chance to arrive in South Bend healthier and more rested than the Irish.

My exact view as well Todd. Have the starters benched by halftime and start resting while ND has a dog fight against a team that's gonna pound the ball all game long later that night. I really hope it has an effect on ND.

You'd think it'd have to have some degree of impact on Notre Dame, both physically and mentally. Purdue gave the Irish everything they wanted, so the Michigan game will be the third straight week Notre Dame will be forced to play well for 60 minutes. It's very difficult to be on as a team three weeks in a row, and Michigan should come in much fresher physically and mentally. Home field advantage will obviously favor the Irish next week, though, so it's possible that that'll help mitigate Michigan's advantage.

True but if there's one thing ND fears it's Denard. As a team they're too slow to stop him.

I want to see an entire drive (make that an entire scoring drive) where the OL has to run block for the RB (not Denard). They need to get some confidence, and build some chemistry. If I'm Hoke, I challenge them by saying that the RB is going to score, or we won't score at all. Yeah, that sounds a bit crazy, and will likely never happen, but you did as what I WANT to see.

I want to see Denard play the 1st quarter and then sit. For that to happen, we would need to open a sizeable lead obviously. I want to see a frickin' screen pass. I don't know why Borges doesn't call them very much. And with the screen passes, flip one out to Norfleet in space. That would have to be exciting even if it is only partially blocked well.

Defensively, I am hoping to see a lot of push by the DL. The reason the LBs were thought to be a strength going into the season was because the DL last year kept them clean and made them look good. Demens has to step up, or this might be his last start (assuming that he does). I want to see the secondary blanket the opposing WRs. Floyd is solid, and Kovacs is Kovacs, but I want to see Gordon step up big time, and Avery or one of the other CBs steadily improve. I like Taylor, and think he is pretty good in coverage, but he needs to learn to shed a block. I'm looking for Wilson to get meaningful snaps and really start to come into his own.

Let's see mistake free football. No turnovers, limit penalties, play with good technique, play assignment football.

Oh, did I mention a blow out?

totally agree on the screens and especially getting Norfleet the ball in space. I don't care what plays they use to do it but we need to work that kid into the offense gettin the ball to him in space, he has elite speed and some great make you miss ability, he can be an outstanding playmaker for us.

very good point todd, definetly don't want any injuries or to wear out any starters against a team we can beat sleepwalking. Really wana see alot of young guys and backups gettin work in this game, should have alot of starters sitting by the second half.
