  • This does not shock me at all.... Almost seen this coming to be honest, 2014 commits are not a lock this early.. Ferns will most likely do the same!

    Ferns will most likely not do the same. He visited several places and made an educated decision. Ward was more along the lines of Gareon Conley.

    Really glad to see that Ward is firm, though!

  • Obviously I'm not VIP and can't see much, but why is it that these rumors get broadcast before actually talking to the young man? It may have only been recently, especially with Poggi and now Ward, but both recruits seemed shocked, and Poggi quite upset, over stuff like this that comes up. I don't know if it's bad sources or running on a completely off the wall rumor, but this type of shock and awe click my link doesn't sit well with me. I guess that's one main reason I'm not VIP yet and stop in from time to time for pure Mich talk.

    Personally, I don't see the correlation between being impulsive or, in this case, second guessing your original verbal commitment to a school and not being a hard worker. To me, this says absolutely nothing about the kids work ethic. Most grown adults are impulsive, let alone 16 year old kids. This is a huge decision in his life. I definitely don't judge him for wanting to make sure that he made the right decision. People second guess themselves all the time. Why can't a 16 year old kid do it?

    Also, of course all of us would like to see every single one of these kids stick with their original verbal all the way through the process, but its just not a realistic expectation when considering human nature in general. People change their mind; it is what it is. Thus, in terms of Ferns, until he actually signs his name on signing day, I would be cautious about making statements like this; he might end up disappointing you too--who knows.

    Let me clarify a few points here:

    1. I'm not worried about work ethic, but about consistency of direction. All the hard work in the world can be wasted if a player doesn't have a consistent plan for improvement.

    2. I wouldn't use the word "disappointed". I'm not saying Denzel is a bad kid or anything, I'm just commenting on what sort of personalities I would want on my team if I were a football coach. Give me a kid who knows what his goals are and keeps striving for them. Bouncing between committing to different schools tells me he might be succeptible to flavors of the month.

    For example:

    Well to me, that quote and the one at the top of this page both seem to contradict each other. If it's true, then so be it. He committed early and is now realizing he wants to simply look around, but if false, then stuff like this bring a young mans ethics and character into play where it simple becomes words that sharks over analyze.

  • I would also guess I'm a little more sensitive to this after what I've read about the whole Poggi situation that happened as well. From my understanding that kid is blue through and through and had some very harsh things to say after having his status questioned.

    Maybe he means something more along the lines of "my family is trying to convince me to take a look around first?"

    I assume on this one he's going to "go dark" for the short term and let things quiet down, then re-evaluate the situation. No real point making visits to any schools until spring when practices kick back in, so easier to say he's solid and revisit it later.

    Comparing his twitter account to that comment, they just seem very different. I don't follow or even have a twitter account, but from what I've heard, he's nothing but blue and the article comment shocks people compared to what he has been saying...

    Totally agree that the article is the total opposite of his normal tweets, which is why I said I thought he was probably caught offguard. This wasn't the only site reporting those comments in the article though...

    Likely because you are a Domer who was talking about a Michigan commit decommitting. Most of us had concerns he was committing too early, never visiting another school besides Purdue. Doesn't mean we want to hear it from a ND fan too though.
