WMU poaches UM marching band director Boerma

  • “Today Professor Scott Boerma announced his resignation as Director of the Michigan Marching Band to students in their post-bowl wrap up meeting. Dr. Boerma is leaving UM to take his "dream job" as Director of Bands at his alma mater, Western Michigan University. While we are all very sad Professor Boerma will leave us, we are thrilled his dream has come true," Haithcock said.

  • Professor Boerma used to be the band director at my high school. Great guy. Our band always sounded great with him, hopefully we find a good director to replace him.

  • Wonder what this does for Pasquale (spelling?)? I always thought he ran the hockey band well and he seemed to be the #2 in charge.

  • Wow, isn't this like Nick Saban leaving Bama to go back to Kent State? We can only hope. I misspent many nights at the Library in Kalamazoo...the bar not where they have books...and it brings back fond memories. Thanks Professor Bourma. You did a great job while at Michigan. Good Luck.

No, he was just the marching band director here. He'll be the full director of bands at WMU. It'd be like a defensive coordinator at Michigan taking a head coaching job at Toledo.

Your right again. Also, I have nothing but good things to say about WMU.

Speaking of WMU, here's an interesting fact:

The Green Bay Packers' 2-deep contains players from every single one of the 5 major schools in Michigan.

    Michigan: Charles Woodson, starter
    MSU: Jerel Worthy, 2nd-string
    WMU: Greg Jennings, starter
    EMU: TJ Lang, starter
    CMU: Frank Zombo, 2nd-string

    Pretty cool collection of players.

That is a weird stat, but so cool to know. Thank you for sharing that.
