Jordan Poland Has Visits in Mind

Jordan Poland still has interest in schools outside southern California

Agreed. Won't get my hopes up until he at least visits.

Also thought Cravens, but would also be open to Poland

  • I'm not a fan of Poland's game.

The tape I saw of Poland is very underwhelming. I think he is (grossly) overranked.

  • I know that our coaches offered Isaac and pursued him heavily but in my opinion he does not fit what the Michigan coaches truly want - a bruising RB that runs between the tackles and racks up YAC.

I think you might be mistaking Isaac for someone else Frank C. Isaac was at the top of Michigan's board at RB because he fits exactly what Michigan wants at the position. Isaac is a huge back, listed at 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds, but 6-3 and 230 lbs isn't out of the question. He plays in a downhill/ run-heavy offense right now and regularly carries the ball 25-35 times a game. He is a very physical back that isn't easy to bring down and picks up a ton of yards after contact. He would fit perfectly in Al Borges' pro-style offense because he also catches the ball very well.

No. I was thinking of Ty Isaac. I know that he was Michigan's top priority at RB (partly because he's from the Midwest).

I've never seen Isaac play in person but after watching his various tapes I wouldn't characterize Isaac as a bruising/punishing RB (in the mold of DeVeon Smith). However, it's difficult to evaluate his ability to run between the tackles because he has a good OL that creates large gaps for him.

But to Isaac's credit, he has unsual size for the position and did seem very good at catching the ball coming out of the backfield.

Lastly, Isaac is sort of a long strider and I don't see him having the sudden, explosive stop-and-go cutting ability or change-of-direction that the best NFL RBs tend to have.

Honestly, I felt Isaac would be a better WR than RB in Michigan's system.

  • @FrankC-- Ty Isaac and DeVeon Smith are both powerbacks but Smith has short-area quickness while Isaac is a longer strider. Isaac has much more breakaway speed than Smith and is bigger, which is one reason why we have Isaac ranked higher than Smith. Isaac is surely an NFL running back. There are scores of NFL running backs these days that are more straight-line power backs that aren't very shifty, and one that comes to mind right off that bat that has similar size and running style to Isaac is Matt Forte. What makes Isaac special is his size combined with his breakaway speed and physicality. Both Smith and Isasc are excellent running backs but there's no doubt that Michigan thought Isaac was a better fit because he was clearly their top priority, along with about 20 other elite BCS programs.

Arian Foster is another guy, he is one cut and go with long strides. Also if you watch Isaac in his receiving highlights with core6 it's evident he has the quickness and chg of direction to be a very successful back. Isaac runs a little high but that can be corrected but he certainly has power.

There aren't scores off successful tall, big, long stride RBs in the NFL, it's rare that they are successful. If you look at the mold of a successful NFL RB, they tend to be around 5'10"ish 200 lbs and are shifty and quick.

  • I didn't say successful ones. But there are plenty of successful RB's in the NFL over 5 foot 10 or even over 6 foot.Yes most RB's regarless of NFL or not are built low to the ground because you have to be a rare breed to play RB over 6 foot tall and these days there are more of them.
