UM lands 19th commitment - updated with quotes from Hurst's HC

Our point total only increased by one with this commitment. It's really hard to move the needle at this point.

Poggi and Treadwell should effect it more.

  • So is he being recruited as a DT or RB? I can't tell from his highlights....

I have a small question about this. In 2012 the individual rankings seem to be higher. I mean like the 247th guy is ranked a 92 in 2012 and a 90 for 2013. Does anyone remember if players ratings were lower last year at this point as well or is 2012 just a better class of talent? If it's just a better class of talent then there wouldn't be as many overall points available in 2013 as there was in 2012.

  • Hurst's coach told me they plan to splitting him out some this year and using him in bubble screens. I feel awful for the high school corner that has to tackle him in the open field! lol

Noticed that too. Over on ESPN, not that their rankings are all that great, there are only seven 5* players this year. I don't know if it's a criteria shift, or a lower level of kids this year or not but it feels like there are an awful lot of lower rated 4* kids and 3* kids there are going to be some battles over this year. Some of those kids have what appear to be high 4* offer lists. Coaches seem to see things a little differently than analysts this year.

Hurst sounds like a Michigan man!! A 325 to 330 DT with his athleticsim is scary in the big 10..

  • Really glad to get this commitment. Welcome to the family MH!

Need more defensive line help. Poggi I am looking at you!

There are still a bunch of stars to be given out. Not many 5 stars in the rankings yet, and plenty more recruits will be bumped up during their senior seasons. As for our point total, it won't increase much from here on out even if we get Poggi or Treadwell. Essentially, we've reached our allotment of commits in terms of how they're counted towards the point total. Basically any 4* commit and above that we get from Hurst on out, only replaces a 3* (basically) in the rankings which results in only a slight increase in the point total.

Well i was going more for if our recruits receive bumps. I mean last year we have quite a few 96's but this year most of our guys are 95 or below. If a number of guys receive a point bump or so that would increase our point total quite a bit.

I honestly don't remember where the rankings stood at this time last year. One thing to remember, though, is that at this point, there are a lot more 2012 recruits that have been evaluated than 2013 recruits, so that may explain why it's apparently more difficult to crack the 2012 Top247 than the 2013 Top247.
