UM has a chance with Bosa

  • Nutcracker said...

No, I mean, if I was Joey Bosa's father and Meyer really told Bosa to feint interest in Michigan, I'd make Joey drop OSU as soon as I hear that.

    That's because you have morals.

  • This is a pure case of a kid being an immature kid. I would bet that one day after he graduates from wherever school he decides, he would look back and wish he could do and say things differently. I could honestly careless where he commits, if he really is texting those obscene remarks then I pray he ends up at OSU playing under a crooked coach like meyer. Birds of a feather flock together. Just give me Isaac,Treadwell,Levenberry,Fuller and i'm the happiest wolvering fan in the USA. I've learned one thing in my late stage of life, Just run your own race. Don't worry about who is doing what next to you. Life is great!

Well if the Michigan coaches are lead to believe that they have a great chance of landing Bosa (though they don't), they might put a lot more time into trying to persuade him to Michigan (even though he isn't interested), that will take away time they could put into recruits that we actually have a chance to land.

    It's not just bragging rights.

That actually makes some sense from OSU's perspective, but it also runs the risk of alienating the kid being recruited. To what extent do you want the kid to feint interest? Do you make him take an official to A2? At what point does all this become counter productive?

Granted I don't know much about Meyer's recruiting history at Florida, so again maybe I'm naive about this. But it sure seems strange that Meyer would go to such lengths, because I'd think that somebody who does wouldn't be even moderately successful.

He retweeted something today about everyone in Ann Arbor having herpes (or so posted on Scout). Pretty clear what is going on.

Where was this outrage when one of your verbals (Eric Magnuson) was calling OSU people f#gs on twitter? I heard from one of my Blue friends "he's a kid, cut him some slack.". I don't like either twitter post, and won't defend it. But our fans are so classless. I think it runs both ways.

The difference was Mags was being harassed constantly by grown men through Facebook and Twitter. I agree, our fan bases are both rabid though.

  • But, if indeed Bosa is feinting interest, with or without Meyer's nudging, then I absolutely want him to go to OSU. And I hope our O-line becomes aware of what went on.

But eric magnuson never said osu was in his top 4. Nor did he ever incline that osu had a chance at landing his signature. Correct me if i'm wrong.

It's not morals, I wouldn't want my son to suffer under a shady, incompetent loser.

That kind of logic only makes sense at Bucknuts, so don't bring that here. There wasn't any outrage with the 'herpes' tweet itself, the issue here is whether Bosa's interest is genuine.

I'm simply talking about derogatory remarks on twitter. The reason doesn't matter. Reeves got plenty of hate from UM adult fans on twitter and did not say any such thing. Same can be said for Kalis. I have friends and coworkers who are gay and deserve better than Magnuson's comment!

OK, maybe I'm naive. But if Meyer really did tell Bosa to faint interest, wouldn't that hurt him as well? What if a recruit thinks that this guy is a totally classless bum? I know that's why our coaches stay away from negative recruiting. And telling a kid to feint interest without any tangible incentive, just to rub a rival school in the nose is worse than negative recruiting.

    A couple points:

    1. This more about pleasing the fan base and alumni than swaying recruits. Urban's been to the top of the SEC, and knows that the slightest sign that you are falling behind rivals will bring the heat.

    2. Michigan's own recruits (Pipkins and Kalis, for example) were more than happy to play up the rivalry and take shots of Ohio.

The bottom line is this: Bosa comes into his Ohio visit as virtually a legacy, and everyone is well aware that Ohio is in good standing. While wrapping up his Ohio visit, he tweets something about going to "that school up north". After his visit he retweets something from a Buckeye fan about everyone in Ann Arbor having herpes, then says his recruiting will probably come down to Ohio and Michigan.

Its far more likely that he is a huge OSU lean who is playing some gamesmanship at Meyer's request than he actually has Michigan as his #2.

I'm not going to defend Mags' comments, but he deserves better than to be constantly harassed on twitter simply because he chose to go to Michigan.

    No recruit does.

Bashing any recruit on twitter or any social networking site is just plain wrong and the person doing is obviously trying to compensate for something they lack between the legs.

Bosa's mother went to Ohio State and his uncle played at Ohio State.

  • Not to be THAT guy, but I've seen it spelled 'feint and now faint'....its feign, he is feigning interest.

And before you BN go back and say scUM fans are freaking out and are hypocritical based on Magnusons comments. 2 separate things...we only have issue, not cuz he RT the herpes stuff, but that he RT'd it then says we r top 2. Just ridiculous.

FTR...shame on Magnuson for those tweets

Perhaps. But more often than not the players aren't really into the rivalry as much as the fans.

Not that it needs to be fun, but they need to make a decision for themselves and having a bunch of grown men constantly send them messages does not make the process any easier, it actually causes the recruiting process to become hectic and become a burden to the recruit.

People need to understand that the recruit really doesn't care about what you think, it's his life decision and your opinion couldn't mean less.

  • Not to mention that the recruiting guy, Pantoni former UF recruiting coordinator, got into it last night after Bosas "that team up north" tweet, he follows up with "funny tweet" #rivalry.

it does...like the Ohio fan that called Shane Morris a f@ggot on twitter a couple of days ago for no apparent reason.

Wish these kids would just make their accounts private...
