Typical shady sec move by urban meyer

THIS would be a bad one if it's true, as bad as overpracticing from a sportsmanship perspective but certainly not equal in the NCAA realm with their pretend focus on students (but there are a number of variables that are just flat out unknown, can anyone refer me to the rules section of the BIG that mandates sending video?, 11w's seems to question it).

The AD is a bad one too and I dont know how Gene smith doesn't know better but it's the only one of those "46" that is noteworthy. Tresselgate was obviously terrible (but in the spirit of Civil Disobedience I blame tressel for lying, not the students who sold their own property like any other person would be allowed to do)

As for my "excuses," sorry if i was providing context to someone who thought Meyer personally committed 42 secondary violations when he got on campus, when in fact he was responsible for one. The rivalry is very serious to me, but I can't respect it if I can't take the fanbase seriously

I guess we are still at 1 for the Noah Spence situation?

Urban must have had no idea that his boss and former great at Ohio were sending one of his recruits a taped pitch for his services at Ohio.

    Really?

I should have said "directly" responsible but if you are blaming Meyer for what Geno Smith did can I blame hoke for Roundtree and Demen's secondary recruiting violations?

If it happened on his watch, then absolutely he is the head coach.

The kids should have known the rules. Having said that social networking is fairly new, sending recruiting video's has been a known infraction for quite sometime now.

First I'd like to say Urban is a highly polished terd. Some people here might not agree but I am glad he is at OSU. Meyer has all ready done a few things to piss off some other B1G coaches. I say good. Hopefully the other coaches get that the B1G is not going to be the gentleman's club it has become. Maybe the other coaches will strive to work harder in coaching and recruiting to put Urban in his place.

To not give the other team the whole film or a doctored up film is dirty. To have the coach from the dirtiest playing team in the B1G cry about someone else doing something dirty is laughable.

to read an article that come from the detroit press, and call it fact is more laughable. if sparty had such a problem with the game film, why did they wait untill after they lost to censored about it?

I don't think many people here care to much about who's crying or when they're crying.

Why can't Ohio do things above board, right the first time?

    Amazinglyblue78

  • I don't think this is "typical sec" because nobody in the SEC complains about this. I also don't think this is "typical Urban" because no coaches from his past have ever complained about this, whether from his days at Utah or Florida.

They had to use their time before the game to make up for lost time w/ the game film... it wasn't until after the game they finally had time to bitch about it. As much as I dislike sparty, something like this could set preparation back a day or even 2 which means a lot when you've only got 5 to prepare.

Correct. Ohio did this to gain an advantage. Why else would they do it? Out of boredom? Bucknuts, just deal with the fact that Urbs will be teetering on the edge fairness for the rest of his tenure.

We normally have around 46 secondary violations 911? It's not really the beginning of anything.

Which is worse the game tape or putting your best player in after he got knocked out?

Yeah, putting Gholston back in was disgusting saying he got the wind knocked out of him.

If you're going for the lesser of 2 evils, that's a tough stance to be happy with. I just don't understand why such blatant acts would begin so quickly while the team is in the middle of a season that doesn't count.

Urban doesn't like Dantonio? He wants to piss him off after him and Bielemia accused Urban of cheating and crying over Urban taking Pittman and Dodson???

Dantonio doesn't like Urban? He wants to make Urban look bad, so he lies?

I don't know, I don't care. I just know that I don't have any respect for Sparty after that game.

  • Todd,

Read my first post. MSU, in all likelihood, had access to all of the game film well before the time that they claimed to have it from OSU. There are systems, such as one called "Dragonfly", that gives one school the ability to access and download any film from any school that also uses the same system.

Conferences typically have their schools utilize one specific system in order to ensure film can be distributed without issue. To my knowledge there are very few of these types of systems out there anyway.

Regardless, film can be sent from school to school in a variety of ways. MSU would have had four weeks to have access to OSU's first 3 games and break down the film from other schools. MSU saying they didn't have access to OSU's game film until Thursday is B.S.

I never said Michigan State didn't have access until Thursday of game week, because they obviously had some access to it. But it's possible that they didn't have the complete films until Thursday of game week if OSU was slow to fix the problem.

Again, I have no idea what actually happened here. And I know all about the systems that certain schools/conferences use to share video. But it's still possible that Ohio State either altered a film that they had previously uploaded, or just doctored the film before even uploading it in the first place.

How do you study film of games that haven't been played?

  • My gym teacher (huge MSU junkie) brought this up to me, he was complaining and calling Urban a slim ball for like 5 minutes today. Not sure he realizes how easy it is to get the film.

Amazingly, I'm referring to film from the Miami (OH), UCF and Cal games. Film from the first three games of the season would have been available for four weeks prior to MSU facing off with the Buckeyes. Meaning they would have had three full weeks to have GA's break down the film, again standard procedure in CFB.

Todd, all of the opponents that the Buckeyes faced in the first four weeks would have their OWN film shot from their OWN cameras. Unless one of the teams OSU faced in the OOC was going to play MSU later on in the season, that team would have no reason to not share the film of their game vs. the Buckeyes.

My main point is that MSU is crying over a loss and that this (non)story is pathetic. MSU saying they didn't have FULL film of the OSU offense simply means that the Michigan State video coordinator DID NOT DO HIS JOB. Because film is always available, but sometimes (I know, I have done it) you have to jump through hoops (meaning go through 1, or sometimes 2 or more teams) to get it. It is the nature of the business.

I believe what the poster you were replying to meant was that, with the Cal game being played two weeks before the MSU game, MSU didn't have a full 3-4 weeks to track down all the film.

I completely agree with you that there are ways to access the film through other schools if necessary. The point is that it shouldn't have been necessary. Even if it only set MSU's preparation for OSU back by 3 hours (and, assuming the allegations are true, it was likely at least a day), that's still too much. It's the principle of the whole thing.

I really have no rooting interest here. I'm not a Michigan fan, an Ohio State fan, a Michigan State fan, etc. I'm just a fan of the game in general, and want to see things done the right way. If these allegations are true, then I think Ohio State deserves criticism for it.

it seems like people are going back and forth arguing 2 different points here. most of the ohio fans keep arguing that its not a big deal because it didn't cause msu to lose the game. I believe pretty much all of the Michigan posters have agreed with that. Noone thinks the lack of full tape caused msu to lose. Then their arguing its ok for urban to do that because msu can get the tape elsewhere. Thats like saying you owe me $5 but are paying me $3 because I can go get the other $2 somewhere else. The point isn't could msu get full tape from somewhere else, the point is urban is required by the ncaa to supply msu with the full tape and he didn't do that. He attempted to subvert the rules and thats what this thread is all about. The fact that urban will flaunt the rules and try to get away with whatever he can.
