Ty Isaac: #1 Remaining Prospect on Michigan's Board for 2013

  • This guy is a beast. And I'm not sure I have ever seen a big RB cut and accelerate at the same time the way this guy does. We need Ty Isaac.

  • I agree that he is awesome...but #1 remaining prospect? That is a little much. We may be going after DL and OL that are as highly or higher ranked.

Agree with MrWoodson. On the OL and DL we have landed some very good prospects this year, so landing a top recruit in 2012 isn't as important as landing that type bruising RB the coaches need for their offense. Isaac is the #1 remaining on my wish-list, and would be #2 overall behind Shane. Dymonte would actually be really close to Ty because a safety prospect like Dymonte is a huge need too.

  • Issac is probably really high in the pecking order... would be an oustanding get.

I agree with you that Sugar Shane and Ty Isaac are the top two. They are game changers and we didn't take a QB this year and we really didn't take an elite RB either (Drake has potential but he's not on Isaac's level). Also, although we have two big, physical WR's in the 2012 class, they are not speed burners. So I would put LaQuon Treadwell in the top five somewhere. And then after that, like Neo said, I would go back looking for more pieces for the OL and DL.

I disagree. Look, I think Isaac would be huge...but you can replace most RB prospects. However, our DL depth is still questionable going forward. You can live without a top RB prospect going forward; and that presumes that Isaac is the only one that fits that bill. On the other hand, you don't fulfill our DL depth, we will have serious problems going forward. We are, of course, somewhat talking semantics...just IMHO.

  • Isaac has crazy potential. Watching those highlights, its hard to believe his team lost that state championship game.

That's b/c four-star WR Jordan Westerkamp and Montini Catholic put up over 70. Both he and Isaac put on legendary state championship performances in that game.

Not only is he big but he's the fastest guy on the field. And watch how he accelerates through his cuts. He just surges past everyone before they can get a hand on him.

I agree with you on most things, Neo, but not this. Isaac is not "most RB prospects". He reminds me a bit of Marcus Allen. He is bigger and faster than Brionte Dunn.

  • Treadwell has got to be right up there with Ty. Both instant impact players and at a position where top end talent matters.

  • From a scout article...Ty wants to narrow things down soon, as he plans to make a decision before the summer.

That is quite the departure from what he was saying earlier. IIRC, he said he was going to take his time and that his decision will come after his senior season.

  • I have questions about his speed. He's seen as a burner by some but he has said (as a sophomore iirc) that he runs a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash.

I'm hoping that he'll get faster and work his way into the sub-4.5 range by the time he graduates from HS.

    Fair enough...friends can disagree.catfight

Don't get me wrong...during the Dunn debate, I often said I would much rather have Isaac. And he could be a gamechanger. I just think DL and OL win championships...even the best RB, not so much. But, let us compromise...take Isaac and fill our lines, and we can both be happy. baby

Questions about his speed? He looks plenty fast in that 11 minute long highlight film...considering that this kid is 6'2 almost 230 pounds he is f*cking fast. I would have to believe he is probably our number 1 target as far as skill positions go for next years class. Kid is a beast... already looks like a college runningback.

I think it comes down to Notre Dame and Michigan... I have felt that way all along.

Agreed. Though OSU might be in the mix, but tougher to sell with Dunn and Ball in the mix.

Ok. And if we were talking about the 2012 class I would agree with you completely. I just think we have made major progress on the OL and DL in the 2012 class without doing much at QB/RB/WR. We need an elite QB and one or two elite RBs and WRs in the 2013 class.

    MrWoodson

  • Isaac is easily top 5 on my board, but he isn't a can't miss at this point. OL breeds serviceable running backs, and I'm not doubting that Isaac could be a great one, but think there are other positions where we need not only A top flight recruit, but THE top flight recruit. I think we may have that at qb, but need a supporting cast in the form of receivers. It's not uncommon for a freshman RB to excel, and as Hoke always said, games are won and lost in the trenches, thus the need for OL...which has been a good haul in 2012...and thus interior DL...2012 addressed DE...but the conversation is '13.

So as I drunkardly ramble on, I think we need next years Ondre Pipkins....

All you post tells me is that he is fast for his size. He is, however, not blistering fast. When I watched his tape for the first time earlier this year, it was apparent that he was not a sub-4.5 guy.

But speed alone doesn't determine how effective a RB is. Isaac has other qualities that makes him highly desirable.

He isn't super fast but he is patient when he runs so it allows him to find the holes and exploit defenses. Tim Tebow runs a 4.5-4.6ish 40 and he gets the job done because he reads the holes in the defense correctly

    Exactly.

Again, I'm not one to get hung up on speed. I just don't want Michigan fans mistakenly claiming that Isaac is a speedster when he's not.

My two favorite RBs in the NFL (Frank Gore and Arian Foster) both run a 4.6 but he that hasn't prevented either from being a successful RB in the pros.
