There are a few different player of the year awards. The Rupp award is given at the final four so voting has to occur sometime before that. The Naismith gets down to 4 in march but the winner isn't announced until April so i wouldn't be suprised if conference tourneys are taken into account and at least some of the NCAA tourney. The Wooden award isn't announced until after the championship game.
Just to clarify this is all info I found online so if the site I got it from is wrong then I am wrong. I didn't do a ton of research to verify that this is all correct but it sounds about right from what i found.
