Trey Burke leads ESPN's 3rd straight POY straw poll

I believe Sunday's IU-UM game will decide both the B10 and national POY races. Two things about the latest ESPN straw poll. First, Burke received (by far) the most 1st place votes and he also received the most 2nd place votes of anyone other than Otto Porter. Second, the votes for this straw poll were submitted before last night's games (in which Porter's Hoyas were upset by Villanova and Burke near singlehandedly pulled our bacon out of the fire against PSU).

Obviously I'm very biased, but I don't see Oladipo as the same type of player as Burke. He played awful against OSU and doesn't have the same numbers at all.

I agree. Burke has been far more consistent the entire season, but every voter's eyes will be on Sunday's game. It's a perfect opportunity to see them on the same court and pick one. Burke needs to have a very good game.

I agree. The stat that puts it over the top for me is that Burke is the only player to score 15+ points in every Big Ten game while leading the league in assists by a fair margin and having a ridiculous assist to turnover ratio.

His not only consistency, but consistency at a very high level make him an easy pick at this juncture, IMO. Still some time left though.

Do the Big Ten tourney and NCAA tourney count, or is it only the regular season?

I don't think March madness counts, but I've never gotten a concrete answer. Does anyone know?

There are a few different player of the year awards. The Rupp award is given at the final four so voting has to occur sometime before that. The Naismith gets down to 4 in march but the winner isn't announced until April so i wouldn't be suprised if conference tourneys are taken into account and at least some of the NCAA tourney. The Wooden award isn't announced until after the championship game.
Just to clarify this is all info I found online so if the site I got it from is wrong then I am wrong. I didn't do a ton of research to verify that this is all correct but it sounds about right from what i found.

There are four awards. Votes for the earliest are due this Sunday. Votes for the latest (Naismith I believe) are not due until FF weekend. The other two are due in between, so yes the BTT and early rounds of the NCAA can be factored in by voters for three of the four awards. But it seems it will come down to Burke v. Oladipo this Sunday for most voters. Voters have had all season to watch each of the candidates and the two leading candidates will be playing in a huge game to decide the B10. Voters can't help but be influenced by the outcome of the game and by who stands out more.
