Treadwell visiting USC?

  • Mitch Again said...

I personally believe the coaches have worked something out with Treadwell where a spot is reserved no matter the duration of his recruitment. He claimed that to be the case merely a month or two back, and there is no reason for that to have changed. I also firmly believe that the coaches know exactly where he is with his decision and how much interest he has in our program. Treadwell has always been our number 1 WR target for this class, that doesn't change overnight. And before any of you fire back with the Mattison quote, I think that has been overblown. I feel he is taking into account spots reserved for a kid or two later in the process, rather than every spot being filled first come first serve. In other words, if you are not one of the top recruits on the board but have an offer, get your spot before the offer is no longer committable. Because once we're down to a few remaining spots (now), there will only be a select few who have the opportunity to fill them.

As for the Oklahoma schools, they are/rightfully should be far more worried about us than we are of them. Think of them as an insect/small animal and us as humans. While we get bothered/annoyed/sometimes frightened by the creatures, they are always far more scared of us than we are of them.

I am personally not arguing about Treadwell taking his time. He can take till NSD if he needs it. However, if Michigan is receiving interest from other top WRs, i.e. Bailey, Harris, etc., then I would seriously consider taking their commitment. If Treadwell needs more time, then he is obviously not sold completely on Michigan. Fine. I see no problems with that one, as it is his decision. However, if another top WR wants to commit - now, then I would seriously consider the commitment prospect.

I agree with what you are saying, I don't think it would be the end of the world if we took another elite speedster and shut down shop. But I do not think there is a correlation between him taking his time and not being sold on Michigan. He's sold on Michigan. By all accounts we're still his number 1. But this is why I think him and the coaches have discussed his standing. Because of our coaches policy of no visits, him not having visited his other top schools, and his high school coaches no decommitment policy, I just see it as a trifecta for him holding out a bit longer. He made it clear that he wants to decide during his senior season, and I don't see that changing. If his recruitment extends late into October/November, the spot that I still believe is reserved for him will be stripped for another wideout. But again, this is just the way I see it

Not only is this what I genuinely believe to be the case, but my optimism stems from his talent. There is zero doubt in my mind he would be an instant game changer at Michigan. By the time he is a junior I don't even want to imagine what him and Morris have the potential to accomplish.

Yeah, because whining over a kid "dragging" his recruitment until July, yes July, is much less annoying. Wormley didn't drag out anything, he was always Blue.

Again whose decision is it, his or yours?

    Good point...

    Kenetic

  • Huh? I think a kid should take all the time he needs. You used Wormley as an example of a recruit dragging out the process, I said he did not.

If he was "Blue all the way" and didn't commit instantly, that would be dragging it out to a point.

What I meant by "always Blue" was that to me, there was no doubt he was going to commit. As to why he didn't commit instantly, as in sooner than July, I can't say. I just don't consider that "dragging." I think July is a fairly early commit. No biggie.

edit: I think we can agree that Wormley is going to be a stud, aye?

Well .... I respectfully disagree with some of the points. IF we were #1, we clearly are not a runaway #1. Meaning, we have not convinced him to the extent he wants to commit and be done with it. Why?

Is it because you want to enjoy the recruiting process (as some have said here)? Hogwash. I am not a fan of athletes that need the limelight, in order to put a cap on their head. I like the Morris, Dawson, LTT, Lewis, etc. style. You are elite ... know you want Michigan ... and commit. No need to drag it out for the process.

Obviously, I have NO idea on LT's decision-making process. He is entitled to take till NSD. I have no complaints on that one. My point ... if Bailey walks in this week or next, and wants to commit, take it and close the books on WR for '13.
