Treadwell visiting USC?

  • Never Lose Hoke said...

A post on mgoblog quotes a premium scout article as saying that Treadwell hasn't been in contact with Michigan's staff in a month.

But don't freak out, he is in constant contact.

So because Jordan Diamond did not end up at UM, any prospect that seems to favor UM but is not committed by June is another Jordan Diamond? High schools have been on Summer Break for about a month and many prospects are just getting the chance to take most of their visits. If Treadwell hasn't committed by October, then it's time to start worrying. But he has consistently said he plans to visit the two Oklahomas and now he wants to see USC. That's normal. He's doing what the vast majority of top recruits do every year. I don't understand why people are surprised at all.

Please provide me an example in which a prospect has had Michigan as their favorite for as long as Quon without committing, and ending up at Michigan.

Presumed favorite. Treadwell himself asserts that he has no favorites.

    Chris Wormley comes to mind.

Anyone get the feeling that Hoke may just take the best available, and move on, not taking a risk on Quon? I am starting to wonder.

The coaches will wait until he makes his visits to USC, OU and OSU and then have a conversation with him to see where he stands. If it still sounds like we have a good chance, they will give him a reasonable amount of time to make a choice. I doubt they will wait until January, but they will give him time to take his visits and make an informed decision.

If it's a Scout article, it's not from the Michigan site.

Edit: It can't be a Scout article. Must be from Rivals. The last interview that Treadwell did with a Scout site was on June 9th.

He's changed his timeline three times already. First it was before his senior season, then after all his officials, then after a few official visits. Regardless, will the coaching staff turn away other prospects to save a spot for someone who MAY come to Michigan?

Chris Wormley also started taking visits much later and only took visits to Michigan and one to OSU. He wasn't all over the place in terms of interest.

You just proved my point. "Before my senior season" is the earliest he ever intended to decide and that presumably would be as late as August. As for what the coaches will do, I have no idea. So, please tell me, when you discussed this with Coach Hoke, what did he tell you he was going to do in terms of waiting for Treadwell?

    MrWoodson

  • Treadwell wanting to take official visits is neither new or surprising. The fact that he has gone a month without speaking with anyone on the Michigan coaching staff is incredibly strange given what we know about how they operate. Montgomery & Hecklinski are Tread's primary recruiters and they are two of the best on the staff.

I forget who said it, Mattison or Hoke, but they said if you are going to do the hat thing at an army all american game, you aren't going to Michigan because there will be no room. So I don't see why they would wait around for someone who may not end up at Michigan.

It was Mattison. And just because a player does not announce by June does not mean he plans to wait until January. There are six months in between.

    MrWoodson

  • Listen, there is nothing wrong with what Treadwell is doing. I just think if some high caliber WR wants to commit, say Bailey, why would we wait for Quon at this point?

Well he said after his high school season, which is most likely somewhere in the November area, there is about 2-3 spots open now, he doesn't have much time.

Exactly, I'm fine with what he is doing, I just don't get the feel he ends up at Michigan and there is no reason to turn away recruits to save his spot.

That's not how this back and forth started. You didn't say you didn't think we should wait for him. You said he didn't want to be a Wolverine. Those are two entirely different things.

And since we are throwing out past statements that Quon has made, he also was quoted a couple months ago saying the coaches told him they were holding a spot for him. You can believe him or not, but if that's what the coaches told him it seems likely that's what they are doing.

I agree. Still, it's weird that he's not even in contact with our coaches at the moment. I wish we would offer Taivon Jacobs. That kid has speed to burn and would fit in quite nicely as a slot receiver.

Agreed. I want Treadwell in this class he is obviously a very talented receiver but that being said we already have some good receivers and are in the pursuit of a couple more. If he comes to Michigan great if he doesn't we should be fine.

I don't think he ends up being a Wolverine, especially if he sticks to his timeline. He also hasn't had contact with the coaches in around a month, not exactly a good sign.

I am not surprised. I do not believe we are his #1 at this time. Am I worried? No. However, if a situation arises in which Bailey and/or Harris wants to commit, the coaches have some tough decisions to make.

Right on neo....I dont care what Quon does, if we have 1 or 2 WR's who want to commit, give Quon a short window to be the last WR, if he delays then close out our class, and then focus on another top 5 class for 2014
