Treadwell Aims To Get It Right

  • chinese58 said...

“That’s the one thing my head coach wants me to do, he said take all my visits to schools I want to see before I commit,” -Even though my team is almost full and I am happy to be getting all of the kids, I think taking all of your visits is good advice.

Alex Anzalone - OSU to ND Caleb Benenoch - MSU to ? Reuben Foster - Alabama to Auburn Joe Mathis - Washington to ? Greg Bryant - OU to ? Derrick Henry - UGA to ? Daeshon Hall - Texas to Washington Nigel Bowden - Vandy to GT then back to Vandy Jayme Thompson - WVU to OSU Antonio Allen -Ole Miss to ?

Also two kids from the same high school (Manvel, TX) Kyrion Parker=LSU to TX A&M Austin Bennett-Arkansas to OU

Visits only make sense if you are undecided. I think Treadwell has already decided on Michigan, but cannot do the final 'Lets do this' for whatever reason. In the end, he will realize Michigan is the best fit, and will help him get to the pros.

I hope so. There have been some very successful Michigan receivers in the league.

Very successful IN the league, I think too much these days is made of just getting to the NFL.

I would like them to publish more on the five + year mark, but the here and now is way too easy for the media.

  • Scott Orndoff, he de-committed from Wisconsin and joined Pitt's class. Can't think of any others. On the other side of things, there have been players left out in the cold because they couldn't make a decision soon enough. Works both ways.

Listened to previous SW podcasts today from earlier in the week. SW sounds less encouraged on LT now. He still believes we are out in front, but that has dropped off it appears. OK State appears the major threat.

  • Hate to break it to you guys but DG and LT both remind me of a guy named Jordan Diamond. Don't think I need to explain any further.

Diamond never said Michigan was his leader, Treadwell has. And with Derrick Green, if anything it's like the Josh Garnett recruitment.

  • Not trying to start a fire here guys being honest. Pay attention. There is a reason everybody is WOW'ed by Auburn and it is not because it is as nice a place as an Ann Arbor, Mi. The Auburn Wildcats (the cheerleading team that escorts recruits, true story) and the briefcases (Cam Newton's dad, true story) are both very good reasons to worry about Auburn. Throw stones because I am a Buckeye, but understand I am not starting a fire. I am telling it how it is.

Not doubting any improprieties there, but if they take another RB and they are filled at the position, kind of hard to give someone money that wont be playing football for you.

Agreed. It would be naive to think this is not a concern.

True on Treadwell, but I don't think the Garnett comparison works. I believe in the end, he chose Stanford for academic reasons. Can't really blame him there.

I'm not seeing DG choose to go somewhere other than Michigan for the education...

You mean Auburn and Ole Miss aren't world-class educational institutions?! This is news to me!

  • It's been said before, and I'll repeat it, but LT is truly undecided at this point. The mods here and other places have said that they don't think Treadwell is playing the recruiting game, and that he seems to be generally a good kid. Look at it objectively. If you were in his shoes, what would you do in his situation? He favors Michigan, but he does not know what the UM offense will look like once it goes to the pro style. There is simply no body of work for him to look at. Yes, UM has had some big time receivers go to the NFL, but that was all in the past. Conversely, look at who Ok St has put out in recent years in Bryant and Blackmon. They are not changing their offense so LT can see how he might be used, and what potential lies in front of him. There is reason for hesitancy here. Would that be appealing for you, assuming that you weren't a UM fan your whole life?

The Ole Miss thing is a bit confusing from a successful team standpoint, but remember that his good friend Anthony Standifer is on their roster. Had it worked out for AS at UM, Treadwell would have already committed in most people's opinion. A friend factor can have a huge impact. Sure, Treadwell has good relationships with the '13 commits, but look at it this way. I have met some good friends in Ohio since I moved here from Michigan 7 years ago, but there is a difference in friends that you grew up with compared to the new people you meet.

Treadwell is a top talent, which is why the top schools are recruiting him. He wants to make an educated decision, and I am not sure how people can criticize him for it. He has said that he is tired of the recruiting process, but he wants to do his due diligence to make an informed decision. It's only August. There are a lot of elite players from past classes and present that wait until later in the recruiting cycle to commit. The reason fans are impatient in this case is because he has been adamant that UM is his leader. Any comments saying Treadwell is playing the game, looking for money, etc. are completely unfounded and ignorant. Quit being selfish as fans and let this kid make his decision. I think it will be too hard for him to turn down UM in the end, but if he is not entirely sure of his decision, he needs to take time with it.

Another interesting take here, and I am speculating, but could the coaches have told him to take his time if he wasn't absolutely sure? Supposedly they have told other recruits to not commit, and to be sure 100% before they do. Hoke and Co. have shown that commitment is a two-way street, and have honored that just recently with Levenberry. They want players that want to be at Michigan, and want that 100% commitment because that is what they will give in return. Would you want a kid committed that isn't 100% solid? And more so, would you want a player on your team questioning if UM is the right place for him? Treadwell has likely had this discussion with the coaches and I can only assume that both parties have agreed that he needs to take his time until he is absolutely sure.

In summation, lay off the kid. This is the biggest decision of his life, and will be the building block for his future. Sometimes fans take things over the top because something doesn't appease them. Let's not do that here.

I am not sure where this rant has come from. Everyone knows LT will take his time, and will probably be between Nov. - NSD decision. I hope he comes to this class, but will be happy with DG and Priest/McQuay, or banking the schollie. LT can take all the time in the world. It has been obvious for months he does not know where he wants to go. Michigan may be in 'the lead' - for whatever that means. As for the pro-style offense, LT (IMO) may want not want this style. He may want a more RR-style offense (aka OK State). The offense comment is not what it appears to be IMHO. A 'smoke screen' so to speak. All ... IMHO.

I agree with most of what n8 had to say, but if the kid doesn't want speculation and isn't playing the game announcing a probable commitment a month ago comes in as a little suspect. If the young man doesn't want the drama, speculation, or to play "the game" best advice is keep it to himself.

I agree with UMRSB, what provoked this rant? Quick points - He isn't going to Ole Miss. Yes he's doing his homework. The coaches may have told him to check everything out before committing, but I doubt it. He's a full year ahead of the 2014 guys and there are only two spots left in the class. This would no longer be considered an "early" commitment, even in the coaches eyes

  • My drunken rant thread died some time ago so I figured I'd try a sober one. If you read back through the posts, there are some relatively negative ones, at least in my eyes. Plus I was at work trying to make the day go by faster. A lot of people are worried about his recruitment, when they shouldn't be.

No need to worry on LT ... If he comes to Michigan ... great. If not ... we move on. He is not a make or break to me. Yes ... we need a big play WR. However, if LT is having doubts on the offense he wants to play in (pro-style vs. spread flavor), then he needs to think long and hard about what he wants in his college career. Michigan will not have the full pro-style offense for another 1-2 years. So ... LT needs to understand this aspect. Although, if others are whispering to him he needs to play in a more spread-style offense, then there is not much we can do on that one. He needs to talk to former players, coaches, etc., and identify what he needs to make the NFL - and then choose his school before NSD.
