Trade commits?

  • No. Everyone that we've recruited has bee great, as Ducksworth said, they've supported UM and love it, I wouldn't trade that for anything.

  • OSU just has some work to do as far as numbers go. Poggi and Bosa are similar but Mathis is nowhere near the same class as those two. Your boy Dawson worked him over a couple of weekends ago.

Not knocking your class but when all of the top schools have 18 commits, do you think you are still #1?

    Probably not.

I realize nobody would admit to this but.... would anyone on either site be willing to trade, straight up, your entire '13 commit class, as is? This would not change where either team stands with current targets that are not committed and then UM would have more open spots and tOSU would be closer to full Any chance of a discussion before flamefest ensues?

We're going to be running different offenses. A trade wouldn't be a good idea for either side.

Even without a strong finish I doubt you end up outside of the top 6. With a decent finish, top four, strong finish, you stay put. I guess it will likely come down to how these guys perform on the field this year. At best I can only see 2-3 spots in each class left by the start of the season.

Absolutely. Shane will most likely get his 5th star, and our entire class (minus 2) is already 4-stars. On top of that, nearly every other target on our board is a 4 or 5-star, so if we just finish the class with 4 and 5 stars, on top of the 15 4-stars we already have, we've got a very, very good chance of finishing #1. It's not like we're just stocking up on 3-stars and our class ranking is solely based on quantity now.

Shand got left out of Elite 11 after poor showing. Still a high 4-star but doubt he'll pick up 5th after the summer he's having.

He's going to other camps and can still get invited. Also, if a "poor showing" means that the analysts thought he lived up to his high 4-star, 20th player in the country rating, then I'm fine with that.

Agreed, although I think we're assured a top 5 finish already. I just don't think we're guaranteed the top spot. I believe we'll finish strong but there are some teams that will finish stronger just because they're in on the very top talent.

He didn't have a poor showing, he's just very hard on himself, which is a good thing. He was never going to get invited there anyway because they focused on Texas QBs. He absolutely gets invited in Columbus in a couple weeks, because that's his region.

  • Even if Alabama and Texas finish with a bunch of 5 stars I wouldn't trade the quality of individuals in our class with anyone. A top three or four class is great considering the quality of coaching they will get at Michigan.

Do you need a calender? Its spring guy. Does that make sense considering your "spring game" was yesterday?

Roughly zero people on this board and roughly zero on the bucknuts board would be willing to do this trade, and I think its pretty obvious. Each class is filling position needs, each is focused on style preferences and each class is getting kids that want to play for the team they chose, which is valuable in itself. Morris doesn't want to play for the Buckeyes and Burrows doesn't want to play for Michigan. Forcing them into those situations wouldn't yield optimal results. To top it off, each of our fanbases have become emotionally wed to our commits.

That being said, if these were pro teams there would be some intelligent trades to do.

With a "decent finish" why top 4? Is that Alabama, Texas, Ohio and us in that equation? What about Georgia, Florida or someone else having a better class then you? Nice of you to put is in the top 4 with you though.

  • I'm not sure if any upper tier program would trade their recruits as a unit....Michigan has a good class right now, and the positions they wanted...so kind of a no brainer....

On signing day, I'm sure there are individual players we would all love to trade for another that got away....

Alabama and UT clearly will challenge us for the #1 spot. I guess OSU could, too, but we would have to whiff on nearly all our top remaining targets to fall out of the top 3-4 IMO.

Agree on Mathis. I'm hoping for Poggi and one of Bowers/Muhammad.

I think we've got a very good shot with Poggi, but I feel like we're going to whiff on Bowers/Muhammad. Given the number of high-quality DEs we got in 2012 and Malik McDowell coming along in 2014, I'm not worried too much about it. Obviously, I'd like either of those guys, but if we finish with Mathis instead, I'll be plenty happy - I think it's very important that we continue to pull guys out of California.

Case in point - I love that we snagged Dennis Norfleet, and I think he'll be very, very useful for us, but I'd definitely have been willing to trade him for Josh Garnett on NSD 2012.
