Toussaint arrested for drunk driving

  • Frank C said...

I agree that he should be suspended for the opener at the very least. In fact, he shouldn't even be allowed to make the trip to Dallas.

I think he should be suspended 1-2 games minimum, more depending on how drunk he was. If he blows a .20 or something, he shouldn't play this season. Give Rawls a shot.

  • Maybe he did it so Denard has a better shot at the QB rushing record...blank

Agree.. going to depend on how drunk he was when he got pulled over.

If he blew a 0.081 and can make the excuse he didn't realize he was over the limit, plus it's a first offense, plus he's legal age, he might just have a more-rough camp.

If he blew a 0.12 and was clearly intoxicated... he's not playing this year (and shouldn't, IMO).

The reason that Stonum was suspended for a year was because that was his second DUI conviction. As far as we know, this is Fitz's first offense. My guess is that he will be suspended until the start of conference play.

Brady Hoke statement on Toussaint: "Fitz made a poor decision and has been suspended indefinitely because of that action"

    Dizzo

  • Kyle Meinke ‏@kmeinke
Hoke, cont'd: "We will use this as an opportunity to educate Fitz and make sure he understands the high standards that we have established."

Hoke: "There are expectations that come with being a football student-athlete at the U. of Michigan and those responsibilities were not met"

Starting Michigan tailback Fitz Toussaint has been suspended indefinitely, per Brady Hoke statement.

....these kids have nothing to gain but a brief "good time" by drinking .... they have everything to lose by driving afterward... to say I'm massively disappointed here is an understatement. no

  • "Indefinitley".....that could mean up until fall practice, the Alabama game, for one/two etc games............kind of wide open???

We'll see. Hoke probably wanted to get it out of the way, and decide the number of games during fall practice. I think he shouls miss Bama, Air Force, and UMass. If he was at MSU, he would be back on the field after a couple of days of practice.

  • While I wish he didn't make this mistake and could start the year on the field, IMO this could be a good thing for the team in many ways. Not only the emotional side of it and getting through adversity, but Smith/Rawls will be an extremely formidable plan B. I'm a huge believer in Rawls and think he could be a very productive back who consistently wears down defenses, then you throw in Smith's speed/agility and you can cause some problems. Most people are chalking up the Bama game as an L anyway, so if we lose respectably with our backups it could show in the perception>>rankings later in the year. Air Force and UMass should be W's no matter who is in the backfield (not overlooking Air Force I know they are a quality squad, but I do not see us losing that game). No matter the case, Brady Hoke is the type of coach I love having at a time like this. He will not let this go lightly

Respect your opinion but how is this a "good thing for the team" in any way? You want your best against their best. Rawls is not the best back in the stable... period.

Rawls ain't wearing down Alabama's defense. He's a 5-10, 220lb sophomore without an everydown backup. He'd be ground into a pulp.

I know. Believe me I wish Toussaint was available for Bama. I'm just saying this could be a good thing over the course of the season depending on how things play out. It will be nearly impossible to tell, because we can't compare what will happen this year to a hypothetical season with Fitz starting every game, but it is something I have witnessed teams use to their advantage in the long run

You are underestimating Rawls. Looks like we'll find out soon enough

  • Fitz should be suspended 2-3 games. I think three games should be the max especially considering this is his first offence.

  • Just suspend Fitz for the first 3 games.....He will be rested and fresh, ready to come back and prove himself even harder when we play Notre Dame......

Throw Hopkins in the mix along with Rawls and Mighty Mouse. Just make sure that he hangs onto the ball.

  • Positive is he grows up and learns a hard lesson. Thank God no one was hurt. Maybe because of this he will return for next season if he misses 2-3 games. Fall camp is gonna be intense and bring out the best in all our backs to see who starts the opener.
