I know I'm a really new member of the board, but I've been lurking around for a long time, and just created an account. I'm continually impressed with the level of respectful communication that occurs on this board - I find it fosters an atmosphere that's very welcoming and enjoyable, and brings out the best in other teams' fans who elect to post here. The fact that we have civil discussions with Buckeye/Spartan fans routinely is a testament to the character of the board.

I think refraining from cursing/using slurs won't be a problem for the vast majority of the board, and I think it'll simply further emphasize the type of environment we want for this board, one where anyone can come for an intelligent, reasoned discussion of college football and recruiting (with a splash of GO BLUE flavor thrown in).

On top of everything else, the less we resemble Bucknuts, the better. After reading this post, I took a wild gander through some of the most recent threads over there, and here's a sampling of some posts, the likes of which I hope never to see in this forum: (note, these are all from different posters, this isn't just one person)

Let's all agree to never, ever, ever turn into that.

If we join a a VIP do we get to see all sites VIP postings or just MI. I know like for rivals, you can still only read certain articles from other teams sites.

We have noticed a large increase in personal insults and bad language, so going to give everyone a warning again.

Your first offense would have the insults and language removed from your post.

Second offense will also result in a one (1) day ban.

Third offense will result in a seven (7) day ban.

Fourth offense will result in either a thirty (30) day ban or permaban depending on the offense.

However, we reserve the right to skip any of these steps if we feel the poster's sole intent is to cause trouble and push the board's buttons.

We are encouraging plenty of healthy debate, and such language is not needed to make a point.

As a reminder, the GBOD Crew thread has a lot slacker setting, and less will be taken seriously there.

So do the other boards *cough* RCMB and Bucknuts * cough* get messages like this. They are horrible in every thread and when you try to have a civil conversation they cuss and say some of the most grotesque crap.

I don't think we should get messages like this and them not. We are clean for the most part as it is.
