  • Only name that is familiar is Wilkens, but he hasn't done anything since arriving.

Good luck to all three on their future endeavors.

Only Wilkins is a scholarship player, right?

    MrWoodson

  • Still need one more schollie open right? Pretty sure Wilkins is the only scholarship player there which is odd that he didn't include the other player who will leave.

  • Best of luck to all of them. I believe Kenny was rumored during the season to be leaving, probably wasn't going to get very much playing time.

It's only spring. We only need to one more before fall. It's not an unrealistic expectation that one more scholly player will decide to leave during/before fall camp. A player leaving between spring/fall has happened pretty much every year as far as I can remember.

Well yeah I get that but according to Big Ten rules, we already had to report where the two scholarships would come from to get us from 87 to 85. That would mean Hoke knows who is leaving. It just doesn't really make sense to announce these guys are leaving and not the other one.

Ah, I did not realize it needed to be reported right now. I would imagine it would probably be some 5th year senior or 4th year junior that needs the last semester or two to finish a degree or something like that. Not at all surprised Hoke isn't letting the media know if that's the case. The other option is some walk-on not having a scholly for this year. Most walk-ons get their scholly a on a year-to-year basis, so it wouldn't be a surprise for one of them. Not really sure who are all the walk-ons with schollys a right now though.

I know Glanda and Kerridge had scholarships, and I'm pretty sure Joe Reynolds did too, but I can't remember who else. Does anyone know if Glanda's coming back? He was a RS Jr. last year, so he could just be graduating and moving on.

I don't think any of the one year scholarships Hoke handed out last year due to having extra spots available have been factored into the 87(now 86) number. We still need one more guy who was given a 4 year deal to leave the program.

  • It's gotta be tough for a kid to leave the program. It's one thing to be a scholarship guy who feels like he should be playing, but for a walk-on, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. I realize it happens and sometimes kids want to concentrate on academics, or it's difficult to pay for tuition, but once you close that door, it's closed for good.

Too bad. Best of luck to all.

RE Hoke having to inform the B1G who would free up the two scholarships: IMO this is a no brainer. In my opinion, Hoke has had time kick this around and will probably punt a guy off the team that has already "made his bed."

Oh definitely. I was just trying to answer Mercury's question about which walkons actually got schollies last year.

If I had to guess, the last guy out will probably be Mike Jones. With Jake Ryan occupying one OLB spot, Ross/Morgan competing for the other, and Bolden/RJS/Ringer competing in the middle (not to mention Gedeon and McCray coming in), there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for a 5th-year SR who rarely ever sees the field.

Is that not the most depressing bit of info about Michigan football EVER? Seriously. When was the last time a class from ANY school dwindled down from 27 to 16 in 2 years? And when was the last time a Top 20 class produced just 4 kids that actually contribute on the field?

Holy crap. Bill Martin can suck a fat baby's toe.....forever.

Not flamin, but why is it if a Saban or Meyer "need" players to leave to make room for their newly signed players y'all call them slimy or sleeze etc...?

I have no issue with it, whether Hoke does it or anyone else. This is a business, gotta put the best on the field that you can.

Are you suggesting Meyer's not a slimeball?
