Thoughts on the Michigan V Alabama game???????

  • Diegobuck said...

haha never gonna happen bro. buckeyes However, i do find Denard to be a class act. I guess i just hate him less than a lot of the others lol.

I'd love to have a roster full of Denards he always works hard and has a smile on his face. I think it sometimes gets lost in the rivalry, that both teams have some great student athletes like Denard, I always love hearing the stories of when players use their status to become great role models to young kids.

    Denard ..........hate him???????

I have heard no hate mentioned here...just football.....I just said it will be exciting to see him in action........especially against our D.....I had no thoughts before finding out here that your QB had that kind of speed.

It's going to be a great game.......1/2 the country will be watching.......other 1/2 doesn't matter.

I don't think anyone said that you hated him, it was more of a joke. It should be a great game, I know I'll be there. Hopefully, we can pull off an upset.

Of course, we are all biased homers it's just to what extent and that extent can be drastically different from one person to the next.

Why do I think Michigan has a chance to win? Because for as much as Alabama's defense scares me, there offense doesn't frighten me. They possess the ball, look to not make mistakes, and lean on the defense to win. It's not as if, on top of a great defense, they trot out an explosive an unstoppable offense. I'm not worried about coming out and having to play from behind all game, because none of Alabama's games last season were out of reach at the half.

Bama obviously has a phenomenal defense. However, it's also not as if Bama played a gauntlet of prolific offensive teams. Michigan returns two 1000 rushers (one of which touches the ball every single play and also threw for 2000 yards last season). For some perspective, Alabama faced 4 1000 rushers all last season. You're not going to be able to lineup and key on a guy like Micheal Dyer (in the case of Auburn) as the extent of Michigan's running game. Every play, their defense is going to have to account for Denard plus Fitz Toussaint or whoever else is in the backfield.

As far as passing game, Alabama faced 2 quarterbacks who could be considered mobile. Jordan Jefferson and Chris Relf (who were both awful last season). Say what you want about him being a running back in the SEC...that's the factor that makes him hard to defend. You're not going to be able to play traditional pass defense against Denard because of his running ability. It's no secret that Denard doesn't have the best passing arm, but it's his running ability that masks the limitations in his passing. Much like McCarron, Denard isn't called on to win the game with his arm very often (thank god). We just don't want him to lose the game with his arm.

I expect the game to be close going into the 4th quarter, simply because I don't think Alabama's offense is going to come out and put up a ton of points. If Michigan can get one or 2 big plays in the game, I like our chances.

That is why I feel like Michigan will have more than a solid chance to win the game...not because of 40 times and player weights.

Bama's offense will be more explosive than ever this year. We averaged over 35 pts a game last year, gave up only 9 TDs all of last year - Clemson gave up 10 in its bowl game alone. But that was last year.

Which is fine. I'm just telling you, I know this team inside and out. We're loaded. We'll be better offensively as a unit this year than we were last year, and we're subtracting Trent Richardson.

D-Rob is a faster version of Jordan Jefferson. That's all. That's all he is. But again, I like the kid.

I gotta give it to you that Alabama's offense will be more explosive this year than ever. Mcarron with a year under his belt and a NC will have more confudence as a QB than any other in the country. He will be a great one. But Denard is a mismatch because of his dynamic speed and not to mention the improved accuracy last year and I am assumimg the improved accuracy this year. He is a legimate top 5 hesiman hopefull and will be motivated more than ever to go out there and proved to the world that he is in it to win it his last year of college. I still think Alabama wins but it will be a close one because of Denards playmaking abilities.

You conveniently left out that he also ran for over 1000 yds and an additional 16TDs, which would bring his total TDS to 36.

    Also, Denard's stats for 2010.

    182 291 2570 18 11

He completed 62.5% of his passes that year and rushed for 1700yds and another 14 TDS. The only point your post really has that is legit is that he throws too many INTS. The coaching staff and Denard are well aware of that and are putting a lot of time and emphasis on improving that this year.

  • As a long time Bama fan I have much respect for the Michigan program and tradition ...you guys have won more games than anyother division 1 team...I love it when you play good quality teams right from the start...it makes you a better team...playing weak teams early is like scrimmaging against your scout team...you really don't know where you stand but when you line up against a quality opponent and they look you right in the eye and give you their best shot...well in my view that is why we all love the game so much...this will be a great game and I think will be won/lost in the 4th quarter...this game will tell us if both teams are as good as we think they are...my prediction...there is going to be a lot of hard hats banging on one another, I love this old school match up...

Personally, I don't think Alabama will be "the best team in college football this year." It is rare for a MNC to repeat and usually they drop the following year and lose at least a couple games. I think Bama may be a top 10 team by the end of the year and they are very good, but if history is any indication they are unlikely to be elite this year.

So, can Michigan beat a very good team? I think Michigan will be a top 10 team this year as well.

I think the spread will be around 10 at game time. (It opened at 7.5, swung up to 15 and has gone back down to around 13.5.) And, I could see Bama winning by 7-10, but that is not such a large spread that predicting an upset is "delusional" (as you call it). On the other hand, Buckeye fans who think they go undefeated in Meyer's first year are delusional because the chances of that happening are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH slimmer than UM beating Bama. (In fact, the shot of any team going undefeated in a coaches first year --- or any year --- are very slim.)

I really don't see how you can compare the two odds. Predicting something that is not likely is not delusional. Predicting something that has a less than 1% chance of happening might be considered delusional.

What chance do you give to Michigan to win the game? There has to be some chance. Do you think it is less than one percent? ...against a team that is not likely to be one of the top "elite" teams at the end of the year? If so, I wonder what you think Michigan's chances are against other good teams.

I think you have watched every Bama game for 5 years and you are a little "awestruck." Your prediction that Bama wins is appreciated, but someone who gives Michigan a "legit shot" at winning a game with a 10 point spread is not delusional.

As a Bama fan, I am super excited for this game! I like it when the blue blooded teams in college football have the opportunity to play each other.

I agree it is rare for a MNC team to repeat, and in '09, we couldn't pull it off going 10-3. But, don't forget what we did to MSU in the bowl game that "off" year when we had a month to prepare. We have a lot of guys on this years team that remember the disappointment of that year. Maybe that will help keep it from happening again. I can hope anyways.

I will say that our starting rb, Lacy, had a problem with fumbling early in his career. I am nervous that now that he is the guy, he will try too hard and have this creep back up into his game. I think it would take a couple of bad turnovers by Bama to allow Michigan to stay in it. Should that happen, and it's close going into the fourth quarter, I'll be a nervous wreck.

Win or lose, I'll be pulling for you the rest of the year.

I honestly believe Michigan pulls off the upset, 17 to 16 on a late Thomas Rawls score from the 4 yrd line with 36 seconds left in game. I think Michigans D is gonna be NASTY GOOD !

If we lost the game, it certainly wouldn't be the biggest upset I've ever had to endure. Michigan is a legitimate Top 10 team.

lol Way to bring out one game while Rich Rod was the coach, we could bring up our record against the SEC if you'd like. Michigan is a legit top 10-15 team next season, if we win, it won't be a HUGE upset. Let's not act like it's an NFL team vs. a high school team.

Bama fan here - I think Michigan is extremely well-coached and will play extremely hard, and I think they're the Big 10 champs at the end of the year.

But there's a huge mismatch up front on both sides of the ball, in terms of size, strength and athletic ability. We're well-coached too, with more team speed than anyone in college football (with exception of maybe LSU) and we're more physical than anyone you'll see all year.

However, I do think Michigan will keep it relatively close - something like 24-13. We respect Dennard, but in our league Dennard would be a RB. We tackle kids like him all the time.

It'll be awesome, though - the spectacle of two of college football's most storied traditions hookin' it up - in Texas no less. Gotta piss off all those Longhorns and Aggies and Horny Toads, right?

    See y'all in Dallas!

    bol14

Hopefully we start to model your team over the next few years. Bama will be a force for a long time. Power football (manball as Hoke calls it) and an extremely physical defense can rarely be stopped.

Well Drob has thrown for over 2000 yards in both years he has started. He can stick some throws. He completed over 62% of his passes his sophmore year. Drob is a QB. He is better than at least half the QBs playing in the SEC.

62% completions is good. His problem is where the ball goes when it's not completed...the other team's hands too many times. If he cuts down on interceptions and can learn to throw it away, it will help the whole team.

I absolutely agree with this. Been saying for 2 years that he needs to cut down on his INTs.

Two expenienced QB's.......going at it.....Bama runs close to 50/50 run/pass depending on how the game progresses............Our QB, A.J. Not trying to start anything but you can average under 165 yards a game passing and still throw for over 2000 yards. Its not a great defense to use for arguing that a guy is a good qb. This game should be like the other 3 games. Close and very exciting.
