  • I honestly believe Michigan pulls off the upset, 17 to 16 on a late Thomas Rawls score from the 4 yrd line with 36 seconds left in game. I think Michigans D is gonna be NASTY GOOD !

slap People need to slow down with this. We're going up against the best team in college football in what will be a slight home game for them in year 6 of their system. To think we will win is delusional just like buckeye fans thinking they will go undefeated

To think that we've got no chance would be delusional as well.

We all know Alabama is the favorite in the game, but they're not the same team that won the national championship and we've got a QB who can make plays out of nothing. They're very talented but still have enough question marks to be beat.

I didn't say we have no chance but to expect a W is ridiculous. The 2 true I Form teams we played last year beat us and news flash Bama puts those 2 squads to shame.

at the same time...those offenses didn't beat us. It's not like we couldn't stop either one from moving the ball. I think we played just fine defensively in both games but our offense failed miserably, especially with redzone turnovers.

That being said, Alabama's D isn't going to give up much lol.

Nope and Lacy is no slouch. Trust me I have watched every Alabama game the last 5 years; fortunately I believe this game makes the team play at a much higher level the rest of the year.

Personally, I don't think Alabama will be "the best team in college football this year." It is rare for a MNC to repeat and usually they drop the following year and lose at least a couple games. I think Bama may be a top 10 team by the end of the year and they are very good, but if history is any indication they are unlikely to be elite this year.

So, can Michigan beat a very good team? I think Michigan will be a top 10 team this year as well.

I think the spread will be around 10 at game time. (It opened at 7.5, swung up to 15 and has gone back down to around 13.5.) And, I could see Bama winning by 7-10, but that is not such a large spread that predicting an upset is "delusional" (as you call it). On the other hand, Buckeye fans who think they go undefeated in Meyer's first year are delusional because the chances of that happening are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH slimmer than UM beating Bama. (In fact, the shot of any team going undefeated in a coaches first year --- or any year --- are very slim.)

I really don't see how you can compare the two odds. Predicting something that is not likely is not delusional. Predicting something that has a less than 1% chance of happening might be considered delusional.

What chance do you give to Michigan to win the game? There has to be some chance. Do you think it is less than one percent? ...against a team that is not likely to be one of the top "elite" teams at the end of the year? If so, I wonder what you think Michigan's chances are against other good teams.

I think you have watched every Bama game for 5 years and you are a little "awestruck." Your prediction that Bama wins is appreciated, but someone who gives Michigan a "legit shot" at winning a game with a 10 point spread is not delusional.

  • Yeah losing to Bama will drop us to around 20th. But have fun with your bowl game.

  • What will be Michigan's strenghts & weaknesses against Bama???

    JHATL41892

  • It's a tough draw that early in season......and it's away.

I believe Denard will be impossible to stop running, but they will get away from it and try to pass.

For at least one weekend, I will be a Michigan fan!!!

    Go Bucks!pray

  • Unlikely to be elite Alabama? If you think that you must be nuts. There recruiting classes have been ridiculous the last 5 years. Believe an Alabama team underestimated is a potential for disaster for UM. I think this game gets getting further and further away from UM as we speak. Do not underestimate Alabama and Nick Saban a three time NC winner.

  • Starting OL weights: LT,LG,C,RG,RT

    Alabama-322,320,311,303,335=1,591 divided by 5 = 318.2 avg

    Michigan-294,265,286,299,293=1437 divided by 5 = 287.4 avg

If equally qualified players on both teams, which group/team would be able to run-block and protect the QB better???

Does the 30.8 lb avg weight advantage help Bama in any way???

Link to where you came up with your numbers?

Michigan starters for the Spring game

    LT: Lewan = 302 lbs
    LG: Burzynski = 284 lbs
    C: Barnum = 292 lbs
    R: Omaneh = 299 lbs
    RT: Schofield = 299 lbs

    1476 lbs = 295.2 lbs average

Two things though, these kids will all put on some more weight over the summer, and I don't expect Burzynski to be starting in the fall. Mealer, 310 lbs, or Chris Bryant 341 lbs, or Kalis 305 lbs, will be starting at LG instead.

Edit: This is where I pulled Michigan's numbers from, http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mich-m-footbl-mtt.html

I'm sure it would help if the offensive lines were playing against each other...

Really.....meant this to be a serious conversation.

    Alabama runs a 3-4 & Michigan a 4-3.

Hard to compare position to position on the D.......but take a look at the depth charts of both teams..........Alabama is a lot bigger, front three to your front four , LB's bigger on average and CB &S taller and heavier............and one intangible......several 4.4 & 4.3 guys back there......speed.

    JHATL41892

  • vcmarsh1

Here are some reasons the size/strength of the OL means something to Alabama's game:
    All RB's
    1) Lacy 5'11" 220 4.4,4*
    2) Hart 5'8" 187 4.4, 5*
    3) Yeldon 6'2" 205 4.4, 5*
    4) Fowler 6'0" 246 4.8, 4*

Typically Bama turns Fowler loose in the fourth quarter when the opposing backs are tired and he pounds them....no one likes to tackle him...it hurts.

    Michigan's 1 and 2 backs.

    Fitzgerald Toussaint, 5'10, 195 lbs.
    Thomas Rawls, 5'10, 219 lbs.

  • Bama fan here - I think Michigan is extremely well-coached and will play extremely hard, and I think they're the Big 10 champs at the end of the year.

But there's a huge mismatch up front on both sides of the ball, in terms of size, strength and athletic ability. We're well-coached too, with more team speed than anyone in college football (with exception of maybe LSU) and we're more physical than anyone you'll see all year.

However, I do think Michigan will keep it relatively close - something like 24-13. We respect Dennard, but in our league Dennard would be a RB. We tackle kids like him all the time.

It'll be awesome, though - the spectacle of two of college football's most storied traditions hookin' it up - in Texas no less. Gotta piss off all those Longhorns and Aggies and Horny Toads, right?

    See y'all in Dallas!
