Thoughts on 247Composite

  • I love the concept. I usually go back and forth between a few sites to see how a prospect of interest is ranked, and the composite does it in one fell swoop. One thing is that on the commit page for each team, that the 247 grade needs to be represented for each prospect, probably next to the amount of stars one receives (a 98 needs to be next to the 5 stars of Shane)

My question wasn't answered so I'll ask it differently: how is the industry average rank different from the 247 composite?

In essence, what is the 247 composite telling me?

As far as I can tell, they're essentially the same thing. I believe 247 took the Industry Average Rank and just converted it into a number between 0 and 1.0000, which indicates a consensus No. 1 prospect across all services.

I'd rather have the 247 rankings emphasized. Use them for the team rankings, etc. I think the composite rankings should be relegated to a supplemental role.

  • I haven't been able to look too much in depth at them, but a poster on MGoBlog pointed out a major flaw in the way you do the rankings.

"Ross Douglas is ranked the Composite #355 overall prospect (#28 CB) while Darian Hicks is ranked the Composite #256 overall prospect (#24 CB). Rivals, Scout, ESPN, & 247Sports all have Ross Douglas ranked above Hicks in their indvidual rankings so it is unclear how Douglas is lower in the Composite.

They only used inputted the data from each services top prospects lists(Rivals 250, ESPN 300, Scout 300) into their system. Because Hicks is not ranked in any those lists, he maintains only his 247Sports ranking (which turns out to be his highest). Douglas is ranked by a lot of those lists and that actually ends up bringing his ranking down because it is below his 247Sports ranking."

This is a problem and I hope the formula is reworked to avoid things like this

247sports never specified the other recruiting services the 247Composite was made up from.

Could you find out the other sites for us? Maxpreps? Scout? Rivals? ESPN? Other?
