Thoughts on 247Composite

  • Just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on the new composite rankings?

I love it. Gives that many more eyes to average out the potential of a recruit.

Thanks, I agree. With all the other recruiting services out there, it really gives a good idea of how are rankings compare and like you said, more eyes. Its unique too, nothing out there like it.

  • I'd rather have the 247 rankings emphasized. Use them for the team rankings, etc. I think the composite rankings should be relegated to a supplemental role.

  • Pardon my newbness, but where can one view the composite rankings?

  • Love them. Just another great feature 247 has implemented, with plenty more still ahead!

Ok I see what your saying. What don't you like about composite used for team rankings?

No prob. I linked Shane Morris' profile, which has his composite ranking on the top right underneath the 247Sports ranking.

I like the talent here at 247. I read the articles here and would rather have the rankings based entirely on how these analysts feel. The staff here is open to answering questions, and JC et al. don't mind explaining why guys are ranked where they are. These are but a few of the reasons why I don't belong to any other site.

I see. Thanks buttesnake. Preciate the support.

  • I like it, easier way to see a prospects average rating, rather than research every major site.

It would be nice to be able to switch between composite and 247's rankings in the team rankings category like you can with the Top 247.

    This.

    I love it all though.

  • I understand what the Industry Rank is but please explain to me the composite rank. How is the composite calculated?

I think it's a great concept. Other sites don't acknowledge any other opinions on recruits (their way is the only way) and that fact that 247 is says a lot about its staff. Everyone here is always professional and the composite rankings only further my respect for the staff; 247 is by far my favorite recruiting site.

I would like it if you didn't base your team rankings on it.
If I could see it as secondary (and not used in your rankings), I would really like it.
However, I think you all are becoming the best in the business and to drag your team rankings down by incorporating what I feel are inferior ratings does not sit well with me, jmo

Fair enough. Thanks for the honest opinion.

  • The only thing that i don't like is when you go football recruiting and click on football commits it shows the composite rankings rather then 247 rankings beside each player. I wish it showed both or just your rankings. Great idea though!!

Ok yeah I see what your saying, that makes sense. Maybe that could be something that changes down the road, who knows? Good thought though.

    Good idea. Things to consider:
    1) your copy suggest the 247 rankings are not as good. That devalues your brand. Bad idea for copy.
    2) its good to be more transparent on who is included and how everthing is calculated: How do you handle it where recruits are not ranked at all? Some sites just provide stars which have little granularity and some do the opposite etc. How do you handle all this? Opening it up subjects you to debate but that gets people talking and means more page views.
    3) you could open up your methodology and let people customize their own lists and rankings for their team ...making it more sticky. Lots of users have created their own composite. Let them do that with your data to start.
    4) I'm on mobile and many of the features don't show up. Make that clear in the description. Better yet make mobile the place to innovate. Right now you lead in mobile but it's not where you innovate. The trend is people are giving up their desktop. Without a mobile first strategy you leave yourself open to competition.

  • My question wasn't answered so I'll ask it differently: how is the industry average rank different from the 247 composite?

In essence, what is the 247 composite telling me?
