At least Rawls gives me hope for the future, since we're never going to run a shotgun spread after Denard leaves.

Totally agree on that. I think Rawls could be pretty good next season, just not sure how well his strengths fit in this year with the way we need to run our offense.

If Fitz keeps shying away from contact, I want Rawls in just to remind defenders to respect the power of a RB. I agree that the offense we have to run this year doesn't really play to Rawls' strengths, but he needs to see the field. If Fitz were in last year's form, it'd be a different matter, but as it is, I want playmakers on the field, and Rawls is one of them.

I agree that he just needs a shot. The Alabama game wasn't a fair test and he didn't get many touches regardless.

Here's a stat for you ... Rawls had a higher yards per carry against Alabama than Fitz had against Purdue.

I'm going to be the Debbie Downer here and say that people are taking way to much out of four carries in mop up duty. He broke two tackles by the same guy: Purdue's backup free safety.

And perhaps there were some gaps I didn't see while I watched this game the first time, but Fitz didn't get a lot of room.

Fitz had 17 carries for a total of 19 yards against Purdue. That has nothing to do with Rawls trucking defenders in mop up duty. It has to do with Fitz not going north and south and being tackled too often for zero gain or even behind the line of scrimmage. And the only way to find out whether Rawls can do better than that is to put him in against starters. Something tells me he would have run for more than 1.1 ypc on Saturday if he had played earlier.

I 100% agree. Rawls would rather take it up the middle for a yard and fall forward for 2 more rather than bounce it to outside in hopes of a big gain.

Agreed. The only way I see Rawls getting negative yards is from a blown oline assignment. Otherwise, that boy is going forward with bad intentions.

  • There's only one way Fitz gets drafted next year (or the following), and that is if Israel and Iran go to war and whoever the President is starts up a military draft.

Too bad the only running play that works for Michigan this year involves Denard pulling the handoff on a zone read then charging up the middle. Rawls is gonna be dragging out sweeps and getting bottled up outside just the same as Toussaint.

That was a nice run, but as long as Denard is playing, I think we should be sticking with Fitz.

  • He better start next week against MSU. I hope Hoke doesn't say anything about it all week and surprises MSU with it.

  • Gosh...he is really getting frustrating.

    UMWolverines

  • He will not start but he will continue to get an increase in PT. The coaches like Fitz too much...but I do like Rawls in short yardage and goaline situations
