The ethical difference between Michigan and Ohio

  • elmn12 said...

Too bad no one cares that Ohio finished 12-0. You guys should be happy that the toughest team you played was Michigan, because if you ran into an SEC team in a bowl game you would just embarrass yourselves again. At least this way you can keep lying to yourselves. lol

But Michigan wasn't the toughest team we played this season.

Teams with a winning record that the Wolverines beat this year:

    1) Northwestern

it sucks not going to a bowl (for sure, no argument), but, "the game" is and always be more important...

i can remember losing to um and still going to pasadena (or other big bowl games) and it just wasnt the same...

cant speak for anyone but me, but its beat um or bust...

While the game is very important to me, it will never be OSU or bust for me.

That just isn't fair to the players who bust their butts off every other game and finally have a let down game in that game.

And OSU wasn't even close to the toughest team we played this year. Bama and ND were tougher and Nebraska was a push. Our bowl opponent, projected to be one of Georgia, Florida, A&M and LSU, also will be tougher.

Oh, I'm sorry, and what bowl game are you guys going to that is better than the "Left-Out Bowl"?

    I'll wait.

You know who is also going to go to a better bowl than Ohio State? Purdue and most likely Iowa State and Duke as well.

OH and what bowl game are you going too, oh thats right... the not good enough to hold the JOCK STRAPS OF TOSU bowl game. YOU LOST DEAL WITH IT. No matter what bowl you play in you still lost and are not good enough compared to tOSU. You got lucky last year during a perfect storm. Your Fred Flinstone Head coach sucks and and the so called return of TTUN football was way overblown. You are not back, never will be back all the while you can watch TOSU go 12-0 this year and go 13-0 next year on its way to the Final BCS title game. Yep... deal with that....

While I agree with everything you said, the day after we got beat is probably not the best day to say it. Not that you're whining, but just saying it could come off that way.

Or it just happens to be the day after their onfield celebration glorifying said improprieties

No buddy, you deal with it. Your season this year basically doesn't exist. Are you really going to claim this as one of your undefeated seasons? That's a joke. You have what, six? I'm telling you right now, you'd have been better off losing a game or two. Every time you bring up six undefeated seasons in history, we're going to respond by "no, five". BECAUSE IF YOU PLAYED A BOWL GAME, THERE'S NO GUARANTEE YOU'D WIN IT. Now typical shameless toilet fan, go suck on that.

Sure it does. Jim Tressel did a lot of good at Ohio State. And yes, made some mistakes. He's paying dearly for his mistakes and the vast majority of the fans have forgiven him. Nobody's perfect. Get off your high horse.

Ha, high horse. If we're the fanbase on the high horse, yours is the one that's proudly strutting down the street not knowing the fly's open.

I would love to see you guys kick some sec butt all over the field. So sick of their winning all the time. Plus UM has a history of beating sec, unlike Bucks.

  • Undefeated is undefeated. This season does and always will exist. It's great to beat Michigan anytime. Three in a row when trying to end a season undefeated. It's been a while since um won that type of game. 1997 is a long time ago when you won the lesser 1/2 of a national Title and never played the best team in the country (Nebraska). You play who is on your schedule. Twenty years from now when I look back on this undefeated season I'll be smiling with memories of shutting out the wolverines in the second half and curb stomping the big ten champion cornhuskers on the way.
By the way, Michigan has to stop commenting on Jim Tressel. You are the ones who should be embarrassed when he is brought up. 9 and 1 are the numbers and that's what I remember. Owned!!!
OSU is paying the price by not getting to beat ND for the championship this year. We still have 364 more days to enjoy our victory.

When are we having Chris Webber day at Crisler? lol

I know there have been recent considerations of hanging a banner for the Fab Five team in Crisler. I heard discussions about it on WTKA within the last few months. Sam and Ira were discuusing the possibility.

Also didn't Bill Frieder recruit, er pay, those guys, not Fisher.

I guess I don't understand how this season never happened. Do you mean that you think it will be vacated? The 2010 season was vacated but I don't think this year has to be. Do you mean that since there is no possibility of a bowl game that the season doesn't count? Then the entire rich rod era for Michigan wouldn't count. As much as I'm sure you all would like to pretend they didn't exist but sadly they do.

Like I said, your fly's still open.

No, this season won't be vacated. But if you had the least amount of self recognition, you wouldn't be screaming 'undefeated!' at the top of your lungs because, I repeat, there's just no guarantee you win a bowl game if you played in one. Are you disputing this? You were undefeated in the games you played. So I guess you could say you're undefeated in the technical sense. But your season is cut short because of the transgressions of your program. It's not like the season was shortened by a lockout or force of nature. That little asterisk that you conveniently try ignore, it's that you failed to achieve an undefeated season in the sense that everybody accepts.

The Miami Dolphins had a perfect '72 season. They played two less games than they do now, but does that take anything away from their season? No! Perfect is perfect. It's not their fault they didn't play 16 regular season games. Osu in 2012? Not perfect.

The only thing this season will be remembered for is how Tressel cost you a shot at a national title by his cheating. It will forever be the season of unfulfilled potential. The lost season. The forgotten season. The season birthed from scandal. It also will prove to be Urbie's best season in Columbus. He will never again exceed 11 wins and his frustration (and fan grumbling) will cause him to "retire" again by year six at the latest.

A striking difference became apparent on Saturday between the two programs. It involved the glorification of a coach who swept NCAA rules under the rug, and who represents everything that collegiate athletics should not be. The Ohio faithful fawned over a man who attempted to manipulate a system by trying cover up any improprieties within a program he oversaw. A man who clearly conflated the line of what is right and wrong, while mentoring 18-23 year olds while in the process This was absolutely sickening to watch. What an excellent example to follow and be associated with......someone who embodies the hypocrisy of integrity.

Serious question and NOT a flame. Just how long are we supposed to be mad at Tressel? He lied. He broke no real Laws, no one got hurt, no one was accused of breaking real Laws. Have you never told a lie? We have all told lies. If we are going to scorn Tressel for telling a lie, then should everyone be held to that same standard?

The guy did a lot of good in our community. He was a great football coach and a great man. Yes, he has flaws. He lied so that just tells me he is not perfect. Are you perfect?

The season is fulfilled. It counts. Nothing will be vacated. It goes down as an undefeated season. We a a Bowl ban, not a regular season ban. Everything we did in the season, from going undefeated, winning the Division, to beating our rival counts and goes into the record book.

  • I'm not going to get into this too much because the reality is most people are going to think how they want and nothing will change their minds...but here is my take on this as a Buckeye fan.

Being closer to the program than probably most of you, there is no doubt in my mind as to how I view Tressel. He is a very good man who made a very bad mistake. Just like all the good he did on and off the field will not completely overshadow his mistakes, neither should the mistakes overshadow all the good. But the mistakes he made he has paid the price for and then some.

In terms of any ethical differences between OSU and Michigan, I do think it's relevant to point out that this was brought to light internally by OSU. It would have been very easy for OSU to simply ignore what they found. Instead, they brought it to the NCAA. So to suggest that OSU had some type of ethical problem is either short-sighted or simply a function of a hatred for OSU. The problem was Tressel's.

I have no problem what so ever with honoring the players and coaches for the 2002 championship...all of them. That championship, like the current sanctions, are a part of history. We as OSU fans must live with the bad, but we also aren't going to ignore the good.

meaningless? well i guess so did you guys. you had a nobody schedule last year, you beat us when we were down, oh thats something to brag about it, your 2-10 in 12 years. meaningless would be going 11-2 beating div1 AA teams and then this year having a big boy schedule starting 8th in country and getting destroyed by every ranked team that played you and finsihing the season not ranked. with the " best running qb " ever. what was his record vs ohio state? oh yeah 1-3. your program beat 1 top 25 team this year.and over the last 4 years your team is 4 and 13 against top 25 teams. so meaningless? that would be your team sir. your last national championship was in 97 which you shared, since then we have played for 3 and won 1. and your last big 10 championship was 2004, lets get serious now we have won 6 since then not including this year since we beat everyone, your program is meaningless :) have a good day oh by the way tell your head coach to shake Urban Meyers hand like a MAN

You do realize there has never been a point of Michigan football where we have had more Ohio players than Michigan players, right? If I am wrong, please feel free to find the year this is true. I'll wait.

Heisman winners? Sure two of them are from Ohio, but probably the greatest one (Tom Harmon) is from Indiana. Oh what would Michigan be without Indiana!?!?!?!?!?!?!
