The ethical difference between Michigan and Ohio

  • A striking difference became apparent on Saturday between the two programs. It involved the glorification of a coach who swept NCAA rules under the rug, and who represents everything that collegiate athletics should not be. The Ohio faithful fawned over a man who attempted to manipulate a system by trying cover up any improprieties within a program he oversaw. A man who clearly conflated the line of what is right and wrong, while mentoring 18-23 year olds while in the process This was absolutely sickening to watch. What an excellent example to follow and be associated with......someone who embodies the hypocrisy of integrity.

The celebration was to honor the 2002 undefeated National Champion team, not a referendum on what happened 8 years later. To honor the team without the head coach being there would be a sham.

"everything that collegiate athletics should not be" Really? He didn't report a few free tattoos. A little overstated, don't you think?

EDIT: blue2468: This isn't Bucknuts, we don't allow personal insults here. This is your warning.

Free tattoo's? really is that all you think it was?
What about the new cars TP drove and his mother on welfare?
Marice Clarett told the truth many years ago about free cars and such but no one would listen
    Tressel was dirty for years

Please at least try to have a few fact-based opinions. There were no free cars for anyone - as investigations by the NCAA and the FBI proved a number of times. Tressel was NOT dirty for years. I understand your post-game disappointment but old stories that were proven false are beneath you.

  • When stealing from the equipment room and signing them, please explain to me how this is FREE?
Lying to the NCAAA, playing illegible players and covering it up, yeah that sounds like free tattoo to me.
Shame is Tressel came out smelling like a rose, and his lack of leadership ruined many kids lives.
    Where is TP now?

Again - get a couple of facts - nobody stole anything from the equipment room. Proven time and again.

Where is TP? making $800k/yr in the NFL. Life ruined.

  • Look, I watched the game with some OSU fans...and they were embarrassed. They like Tressel, but they just got a bad taste in their mouth from that.

Yea, and the whole "can't honor the NC team without him" is a sham.

You sure as heck can when that same coach got fired for breaking numerous major NCAA violations and is the reason that this season is basically useless for them.

Useless? While you guys are practicing for the Left-Out Bowl, the entire Ohio State coaching staff will be out recruiting coast to coast.

Get over the past sweetheart! The new regime is in town and just finished 12-0.

EDIT: No need for that last comment. Please don't let it happen again. - TW

Of all the things I am worried about, this is so far down my list I think it is an afterthought. Nothing, NOTHING, recruits more nationwide than being in a big bowl...and that you missed out on.

I am sure you guys will have a good recruiting class, but you also miss out on a month worth of practices..that also hurts your young guys.

These things do matter. As for next season, you guys have another pretty easy schedule, so I would expect a pretty good season.

Lol, I believe you're confused on who is getting left out of the Bowl Season. If only ohio wasn't so arrogant, they wouldn't have played in that meaningless bowl last season and this season wouldn't be a complete waste.

The new regime did nothing to intimidate me personally. They had the superior talent, at home, with Michigan's entire starting backfield hurt and managed to pull off a 5 point win. The game will continue to be good, and close.

You do realize this is almost 2013 right... in ohio are you able to do math on how long ago that was?

Frieder was not the coach of the Fab Five, Fisher was.

And Fisher is never welcomed back like that...kind of the point.

  • Obviously, there are many Buckeye fans that consider Tressel a hero and many who don't but all agree it was sweet to "own" TTUN for so many years. There was more than just a smattering of "boos" mixed in with those cheers when he and the 2002 NC players came into the stadium. The OSU football program received a media and NCAA "colonoscopy" of major proportions and they found much of the allegations to be baseless. But suspicions continue and for many wolverine fans they probably always will. We'll all have to live with it, might as well begin today. Until next year in A2.

They were delusional. They thought there was 0% chance of a bowl ban, and I kept telling my Buckeye friends they were not seeing reality.

It cost them a chance at a championship.

I agree with the last point too. Did Braxton look like a Heisman winner yesterday? Not really. The defenses, on both sides, looked like championship level defenses...and both had key guys hurt! I am optimistic about the future, though I want our coaches to do a better job. In close games like yesterday, we cannot afford coaching mistakes.

  • I don't respect Tressel and I don't think you really should, his actions showed a lack of integrity and the same sort of attitudes that led to much worse outcomes down the road in State College.

But at the same time, it's a bit transparent to make this thread the day after we lost to OSU, a team we've beaten twice out of what 12 times now.

Too bad no one cares that Ohio finished 12-0. You guys should be happy that the toughest team you played was Michigan, because if you ran into an SEC team in a bowl game you would just embarrass yourselves again. At least this way you can keep lying to yourselves. lol

While I agree with everything you said, the day after we got beat is probably not the best day to say it. Not that you're whining, but just saying it could come off that way.

Oh, I'm sorry, and what bowl game are you guys going to that is better than the "Left-Out Bowl"?

    I'll wait.

You know who is also going to go to a better bowl than Ohio State? Purdue and most likely Iowa State and Duke as well.

Sure it does. Jim Tressel did a lot of good at Ohio State. And yes, made some mistakes. He's paying dearly for his mistakes and the vast majority of the fans have forgiven him. Nobody's perfect. Get off your high horse.
