Hey all:
As most of you know, I'm a mod and writer for the MSU 247 site. Throughout the year, I've gone on opponents' homeboards and opened myself up to any and all questions regarding Michigan State's football team. I'd like to keep things on football; I'm not going to flame/troll/etc.
I'll be here all week, so just drop your questions in and I'll answer them in order.

Obviously they were just very lucky last season
.
In all seriousness, they exceeded my expectations. This year they're about where I thought; you miss Martin and Co. on the DL, but your back-7 has taken a step forward. I'm more impressed with the LBs than the DBs, more because I feel UM hasn't really been challenged through the air. They've at least played multiple teams with good to very good rushing offenses; to be in the top half of Rush D's after starting the year with Bama and AF is pretty darn impressive. I think UM has held their last 3 opponents to an average of 86 YPG on the ground.
I do like the fundamentals on the back 7, especially the secondary's tackling ability.

I don't think you realize how solid the dline play has been. Have they been making game changing plays in the backfield? No. Have they demanded the olines attention letting the LBs roam free? Yes.
The play of Campbell has been good. Not up to the expectations of his recruitment, but he has been good. Washington has been solid. He constantly demands double teams. Roh has been getting better and better each week. The WDE rotation has been the most disappointing to me, but it isn't because of bad play, it is because I had higher expectations.

For every MSU game, Rocky does a complete breakdown of the match-ups between the 2 teams. He has already did the stats, and the MSU O vs Mich D. Today the MSU D vs the Mich O will come out. Tomorrow the special teams, both teams keys to victory, annd game prediction.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

MSU's DL has underperformed relative to expectations. The thought was that the natural progression of Gholston, Rush and White would off-set the loss of Worthy. In contrast, it was Worthy that allowed those players to perform as well as they did; basically they weren't as good as we though initially, so though they may be improved compared to their technique from last year, the overall effectiveness of the line isn't at the '11 level.
That doesn't mean they've been bad. It's a very good run-stopping unit, particularly the DTs. The only runs up the middle that have worked have been quick, pistol-style draws (Ohio State) where the C and OG double team the 1-tech (white) and pop open the A-gap. As I said to xx, MSU's DL has done a good job of keeping MSU's LB's free; Bullough is having a fine junior year, and Allen just went off for 13 tackles, 1.5 TFL and an INT against Iowa.
The pass rush has been lacking. The QB hurries are there (8 for Gholston and Rush on the season), but the DL alone has produced just 2 sacks. Sacks aren't the be-all and end-all of a DL, but having 6 in 7 games just isn't enough.
