  • I still thought Robinson looked shaky on traditional drop back passes inside the pocket. I feel like Borges still needs to continue to call plays that Robinson is comfortable with.

This is my thing as well. Borges is trying to turn Robinson into something he is not. He is not Tom Brady. He is not a traditional drop back passer. Stop trying to make him one. Denard is one of the most electric players in the country with the ball in his hands. Let Denard be Denard.

I would agree. He needs more pass plays that get him outside the pocket and on the run.

  • DL is gonna lose UM some games this year. Fitz/OL were very disappointing. Love the Funchise

Triple option is obnoxious, Air Force runs it very well

The defensive line is definitely a concern. I like how Lewan is taking responsibility and saying the offensive line will have to get better. And your right, the triple option is an absolute pain in the neck to prepare for and play against.

Disagree vehemently, I have watched Denard struggle to throw the football to say the least these past 3 years... and I can say without a doubt that Denard looks like he is throwing the ball better then he ever has been and he is actually reading coverages and going through his progressions... he still locks onto his primary receiver every now and then, but he is significantly improved in that area. Outside of that tipped ball that vincent smith should have caught, he was mistake free on the day and played a very efficient game through the air. I think Borges has the right Idea, when it comes time for Big Ten play the good teams on our schedule are not going to allow Denard to beat them on the ground... he is going to have to do it through the air I think they need to continue to expand on what they are doing in the passing game as the season goes on and I suspect they will.

Im still not sure what to make of our dline. Air Force had success by essentially taking our dline out of the game by scheming to get the edge and they were very successful at it. They had little success running up the middle. Notre Dame will be a very good test right before big ten play.

It is hard to judge a team when they play Air Force because they do things schematically that no one else they will play does. I agree Notre Dame will be a good indicator.

I feel that part of the reason that Air Force got the edge so easily was because the DL were unable to hold the line and force double teams. It seemed like the LB's got blocked wayyyyy too often.

I think there was a reason Morgan and Demens were benched for portions of the second half. Bottomline the defense and the team in general is still a work in progress and was a work in progress at this time last year. Everybody loves to talk up Martin and Van Bergen play on the line last year, but Martin and Van Bergen really didn't start making plays until we got into Big Ten Play and didn't turn into "impact type" guys until that 3 game stretch at the end season, the defense got carved up a good bit during the non conference last year especially against ND as well as stretches against Western and Eastern. The offense had alot of struggles as well trying to find their identity through the air and on the ground. This season Michigan has faced the best team in the country and a perennial 8 to 9 win program in Air Force under Calhoun who as has been mentioned on this thread runs an unconventional offense. A step up in competition to say the least and some inexperienced players just now getting their feet wet on both sides of the ball. Notre Dame will be a very good guage, I want to see how this team responds especially considering how they will probably be underdogs again against ND.

  • Offensively I'm worried, but on defense not so much. The Air Force offense is designed to keep a game close. Hopefully the kinks in our game will start coming out when we play UMASS.

The DL becomes a non-factor if you plan on running towards the edge, and you prevent the DL from converging on the edge by cutting them early in the play, get them on the ground and take the out.....Maybe with AF if would be better to play a 3-4 or maybe a 2-5 defense, now you start throwing them a wrench.

The DE's still need to be a factor in forcing a pitch, even if only occasionally. Also the NT should command a double team so that the LB's don't find themselves blocked so often.

I also noticed that the Cornerbacks severely struggled in getting off their blocks. There were multiple occasions where the CB was still being blocked 15 yards down field.
