Tennessee hires RB Coach

  • ... and it's not Roy Manning. Does this mean the battle to bring Manning back to AA has turned in our favor?

  • Who knows? I'd hope they find a new coach by the end of next week.

I am hoping to see him at one of the basketball games, either this weekend or next weekend, sitting with players and recruits.

Agree. Spring Practice starts 2 weeks from today, so definitely want a coach in place to get some direction from the other coaches before being thrown right into practices.

That's part of the reason I believe they will look for someone who has already been a part of the program and knows the coaching and recruiting philosophies.

  • Don't know who else here has a sub to ESPN, but a poster there said he talked to someone inside the program who said hired "a coach from Kent State", but the poster didn't remember the name. Another poster then threw out Amp Campbell as the possibility. Now that's literally as unreliable as it gets at this point, I know. Would be an interesting hire if true. Know nothing about his coaching/recruiting, but man, he has an inspirational story.

Amp Campbell was just hired away from WMU to KSU. That's not to say we couldn't have subsequently stepped in and swiped him from KSU, but it's also possible the poster just got something mixed up.

It would have to be either Campbell or Jeff Burrow. Interestingly enough, Burrow recruits Ohio and the southeast for KSU, which was basically Montgomery's territory while here at Michigan.

At this point it's just semi-aimed speculation if you go off the Kent State thing. And looking through the list of Kent State coaches, Campbell would make the most sense. Someone else thought maybe their DC, but that would seem to be even less realistic. I realize he was just hired there, but accepting an equal position at UM would be a major step in the right direction career wise, and one I would expect most assistant coaches to take.

I did the same thing you just did ... I took a quick look at KSU's staff. If it is a KSU coach, it also could be their safeties coach Jeff Burrow. But that's purely a guess based on resume and assuming it's someone on the defensive side of the ball.

Edit: MaizeBlue beat me to it!

  • The thing with Manning and i pointed it out earlier is that he seems set coaching offense right now so i'm not sure if he would consider a move to defense even if it meant a job at UM

Yeah, Burrow would make sense as well. I think I still like the Roy Manning idea the best though at this point. But again, it all seems just speculation at this point. I'm kind of surprised nothing has leaked about this at all yet. I expect our staff to be tight lipped, but not others'.

Jerry Montgomery had accepted a job at Indiana (making the jump from Wyoming), but then got offered the Michigan job and backed out on IU. So not too hard to think somebody at Kent State would do it too.

  • What about Dhani? Wonder if he has any interest in coaching.

Recruiting Pitch: "come play for me at Michigan. you can play in the NFL for 11yrs & then get your own TV show, playing sports all around the world"
