Taylor Lewan vs. Will Gholston

  • SpartanRocky said...

Is Moore more of a blocking guy, or a pass-catcher? I saw Ricardo Miller listed among the TEs in the pre-season mags; is he still there? Figure a former WR could make a nice pass-catching TE.

Moore is more rounded than Miller, but that doesn't mean he is a good TE. Moore is average at blocking and below average at catching. Miller on the other hand can't block, but has the hands of a receiver, since he was a WR.

Go read the RCMB thread that I linked. I've read both threads, and they're really the yin to the other's yang. I mean, it's almost a post-by-post contradiction and I think it's hilarious.

It's because you guys don't want to accept the fact that Lewan owned Gholston and are making up excuses why your poster child wasn't able to get by Lewan.

Why do some people here not see anything remotely touchy about a white guy calling a black guy "Tom."

Because we don't live in the 1800s.

No, I know what holding is. I'm not talking about "holding" as in the penalty, but rather the phrase "holding on for dear life" as in, once he had ahold of Gholston he was struggling to contain him. That's not on every play, and I'd have to go back to the whole game to make sure that that video really is every snap of Gholston on Lewan.

FWIW, if UM is running plays away from a D-player regularly, that means the D-player is having quite an impact on the game. I'm really looking forward to the match-up in October.

Wow, I didn't think you would make the foolish claim that Lewan was holding on for dear life, but I was wrong. Gholston showed his frustration at being dominated that day with his punches and personal fouls, we see, the refs saw it, the B1G saw it, and he had to miss a game because of it.

Running away from Gholston? Well, based on you and your fellow spartan fans belief that Lewan was holding on for dear life, this theory of yours about running away from Gholston is hilarious. lol

Good to see your comedy isn't limited to tRCMB.

Are you a proponent of "holding on for dear life" also?

Because the backstory puts it into perspective.

On the subject, Michigan fans will see it one way and msu will see it the other. All I know is they won the game and I'm annoyed by it.

    Running away from Gholston?

There is a clip in the OP. I wonder how many running plays went right at Gholston.

I believe Miller has moved back to WR

I have read it. I stand by my post that the Spartans are wearing green colored glasses.

Maybe Gholston was frustrated because Lewan is dirty & run his mouth (other teams contacted the Big 10 with film on Lewan after Pizza Boy started his crusade) & because on the Punch play Will had his was on the ground being held by the facemask after the whistle.

If you want to claim Gholston got owned - fine by me. But what does that say about the rest of your offense & coaching?

I know its been a while since you guys have won a game against MSU, but what would UM fans have said if MSU fans had tried to claim some moral victory in a 1 on 1 match up during one of the years that you handed it to MSU?

For example, In the 2011 UM v MSU Bball game at Chrysler, Kalin Lucas owned Darius Moriss & scored nearly twice as many points (does't really make me feel any better b/c somehow we lost twice to your scrub team)

Maybe it's the fact that we keep hearing how Gholston has the Michigan game circled and is going to destroy Michigan this year. Doesn't look like it if he lines up against Lewan.

I watched it, did you? I didn't see Michigan running away from Gholston over and over again. Did you see running plays avoiding Gholston over and over?

Are you a member of the hang on for dear life club also?

Lewan ran his mouth? Tom punched punched Lewan, pulled on Denards facemask, arm whipped Lewan, because he was getting dominated and he lashed out like a child.

Nobody is claiming anything else, the discussion is about the matchup between Lewan and Gholston. Try and follow along.

Well, then Borges really isn't good at making in-game adjustments. If an OT is completely erasing a DE play after play, what offense wouldn't take advantage of that? Either that, or the UM coaches weren't seeing the same things that you guys are.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

It was by far Borges's worst game of the year.

MIller moved back to wideout again.. not sure what to make of Miller anymore hopefully the light comes on for him eventually. Moore really only saw the first action of his career just last year... he seems like an average d 1 tight end decent at everything but does not really excel in any particular category . He played sporadically in goal line situations last year and only caught 1 pass. Coaches seem to like the walk on Mike Kwiatkowski... So it will be interesting too see how this tight end situation plays out in the fall. If there not happy with the way the position progresses during fall camp I would assume they would probably de-emphasize the tight end position for this season.

I didn't see a single play, either a run or a roll-out, run towards Gholston on those snaps. On the first one, the RB looks to be heading towards the left and then cuts back (I believe that was Smith's biggest run of the day). After that, there are either roll-outs away from Gholston, quick drops, or runs to the opposite side. I've only watched the whole thing through a couple of times, so I could be off here; feel free to point out a time on the video where I would see a play ran in the direction of Gholston.
